Same way you could use any deer scent, apply it around your stand 30-40 inches above ground. And/Or mix with water and spray a mist in the air on trees and from your treestand. :) Basicly just another addition to the bait site.

I use it as an attractant but be sure to have something subtantial for the bears to eat too.

I tie a kleenex or serviette to a little tree or bush near the bait and then soak it with anise. I usually tie it about 24" off ground. It's alot less trouble than bacon fat or honey burns (do that too sometimes). Seems to work since often the little tree is totally savaged by the end of the season as the bears often chew up the anise soaked kleenex.

Was eye to eye with a little black bear tonight at about 8 paces. Didn't shoot it though. Had the anise out as usual like icing on a cake.

health food stores carry it
i add 2oz anise to 500 ml of water and mist over the shrubbry around the bait site during each bait trip. i will also mist my boot soles and around the base of my stand

By cover scent I do not mean you should put it on or near your person!
But Anise in the general area or to cover your approach works for bears for sure. Anything that attracts bears is not a good idea when deer hunting. I would stick to natural cover scents when deer hunting.

thanks BR for clearing that up for me

Star Anise is the fruit of a small evergreen and is native to China. It has been used as a spice and as a medicine for over 2,500 years. It has a licorice fragrance. This oil gives licorice candy and chewing gum their distinct flavor. Anise is also added to perfumes for a rich, sweet fragrance. Said to be a good remedy for colds and coughs, also used for relaxation and emotional balance.

Use in candy and perfume. Known by fisherman to attract fish and mask human scent. ;)

We add anise to the bait mix and spray it on trees surrounding the site. Also include liquid smoke in your bait mix and spray it while your on stand the bears will come running!
