i was just wondering how bad does the scent of deet effect your hunting is there certain brands of it with less additives that have less scent? besides covering up it seems to be the only way to protect yourself i know guys that choose not to use it is this a wise move?

Your choice as to whether or not you want to be the breakfast buffet for a bunch of blood sucking skeeters or black flies.

I know hunters who smoke and still bag game every year. Cigarettes smell way worse than DEET.

Deer are nervous of the scent of humans. From what I've seen, DEET doesn't bother them.

With what Skeeters can give you disease wise, I'd say no it is not a wise move to go without.

Besides which depending on wind direction I bet without DEET the deer would hear one slapping at skeeters long before they would have smelled the DEET. :D

X2 We are covered in deet when we are in the stand for bear.

Mosquitos are drawing blood heavy duty up here now. Little ####s love the hot weather we're having.

as long as you manage the wind it should be OK - better than squirming & making mnoise because you're bein attacked. I would stay away from the yuppie skinso soft stuff it seems to have other smells plus it doesn;'t last/

i would be careful about it getting in my eyes especially if you might sweat.. i once had it run into my eyes from forehead sweating & they watered for a good half hour (this was the 99% stuff which is getting harder to find nowadays

i still think long sleeves and covering up is be the best defense followedby deet i hope we have a cold spell that wipes them out
