Anybody run there 308 cases thru there 708 die? Just bought a 100 virgin lapua 308 cases to give it a try. I will use lots of imperial sizing wax and take it slow. Trying to find 708 brass is not going so well.

I use to do it all the time, it's a one step process. I was going to use Palma brass at one time but never got around to it.

Use to do it years ago (very easy to do) but now I like the head stamp on my cases to read what they are. I have a habit of not selling shyt and putting it away sometimes for years at a time....many yrs later its hard to remember what was resized without getting the calipers out and measuring bullet diameter.

It works best to have everything written on the ammo box when resizing and for which rifle it was intended for as when only neck sizing my 7-08 ammo from my savage will NOT chamber in my remington 7-08...same for my 22-250's, the savage rounds will not chamber in remington.

All my target 7-08 brass is .308 Lapua.

As stated above it will be a tad short but no big deal and with the quality of Lapua brass you won't be trimming for a while.

Neck down , fire form(cream of wheat method) then I neck size.Load and shoot.

Im using it for my hunting brass. Is the neck long enough to hold the bullets in tight enough? How short is short? I like to have one caliber of neck length at least.

I believe I was measuring around 2.005" average after fire forming and sizing.Max length is 2.035"

Never effected accuracy , jut made sure everything stayed the same and consistent.

Holding the bullet will be neck tension which should be suffice with a regular die.

I just did this yesterday.
I'd keep the brass on the long side after sizing.
Chamber a sized round and keep adjusting the die until
the brass chambers in your rifle.
Not sure about wheat and such.
I load and go.

After the case goes through the 7-08 die, there is nothing to fire form.
It has worked flawlessly for me.

I too couldn't find 7mm08 cases so I simple resized some Nosler .308 cases, as noted by others very easy to do and more than enough neck to properly hold the bullet for hunting purposes.

I have the 308 brass on its way already. Next time i will just get the proper stuff. I dont mind doing a little extra prep i kinda enjoy it.

Sometimes it's enough tension, sometimes it's not. With the reformed brass coming in considerably short, you can't even crimp it if you want/need to.
If you were just single loading at the range it would be fine, not sure it's the best option for hunting ammo that gets rough handled.
I'd pony up and buy 50 proper brass for hunting...
