Was down in West Virginia and got to play around with a Magpul display AK47. Really liked the furniture they make for the rifle. Was wondering if you can put Magpul AK parts on any of our close as you can get rifle platforms? Specifically a Zhukov-S buttstock and a MOE AK forgrip. Also, do Magpul AK pmags fit into the Type 81 or VZ?

The mags fit the T81 with a small modification. Lots of threads on that subject. The importer has lots of T81 mags on hand right now though for $29.00 each so modding a AK mag isn't really required unless you are looking for poly mags or shorter mag bodies to run in your T81.

A 5 round mag body would be good for hunting to reduce snagging with the longer 30 round bodied T81 mags. I have a couple just for that reason. 10 round body mags are pretty sweet to.

I'm just a tard who likes the look of the ak74 so I use ak74 mags in my type 81 lolol
Iv also got the magpul ak grip on my type 81 it's soooo much better than the original grip

The YUGO zhukov buttstock will work on a 58 if you get the adapter that RS Regulate sells. Some people think that you cant use the iron sights with a straight stock. If you hold it with some goofy bladed stance then maybe, but neither I nor anyone who handled mine had a problem.

The MOE handguard is a moderately challenging modification. If you take the old beaver barf or plastic hand guard and cut about an inch off from the muzzle end, that piece will act as a shim between the retainer and your new handguard. If you measure it right it will fit perfectly. JB weld it or something to the handguard if you want. You'll have to trim the other end to fit the receiver as well.
The third part is dependant on what piston cover youre using. If youre using the stock one, you will have to trim some of the ribs on the inside of the handguard to give yourself the clearance you need. if you use the old NEA ones, which are by far the best since they are the lightest and will give you cowitness with a T1 sized dot, this will fit much better.

The last thing, I should have actually mentioned first...the heat shield will need to be removed. You have to figure one out from aluminium or something yourself, I havent gotten that far yet. I should point out that the original handguards dont have one either, which is one of a number of reasons why I think they suck so you wont be any worse off in that department.

The Magpul pistol grips fit with very obvious and common sense modifications. Wether you remove the sheet metal flange thats attached to the trigger guard or not, you can make it work.
Good luck

Another question related to fitting ak parts on a vz58.

Lets say i would like to fit an ak47 quad rail handguard on my vz58. I dont know much bout ak variants please correct me when im wrong.

Magpul does two models for zhukov stocks and also for handguards.

Yugo and s-stock

I know the receiver is different on the buttstock the way they connect for the yugo and chinese ak's. Does the same applys to handguards also?

When shopping on brownells website do i have to look for specific infos to make sure it is similar as possible?

Speaking generally, when it comes to AKM/AK74 furniture, it really doesnt matter what country in the former Warsaw Pact or China it comes from. Its all compatible with minor fitting etc. Yugo AKs are basically AKM/RPK hybrids to a greater or lesser degree depending on the version. The furniture is also unique to themselves.

Magpul does not make any Yugo specific furniture except for a Zhukov stock version. That said, it takes less work to fit a zhukov handguard to a VEPR or Yugo than it does a 58.

Just because I was able to jerry rig a plastic magpul guard to the 58 that doesnt have any bearing on wether any of the available AK specific quad rails are possible or realistically feasible to modify sufficiently. I honestly would not recommend it unless its being approached as an engineering challenge with little hope of actual success.
Even if it is possible to get the lower handguard to mount solidly without screwing up your barrel harmonics, the upper gas tube will *never* fit due to the different heights, lengths and principle of operation; an AKs gas tube is a cylinder that guides the piston, on a 58 its just a cover. So even if the lower part can be made to work, you still have to figure out a way to modify it and/or a vz58 piston cover so it can close properly.

Besides, theres like 4 or 5 quadrails that are already available for the 58 so I dont really see the point.

The Midwest hand guard I have for sale just clamps to the barrel.
