Hi new to forums guy here, with a quick question. I am storing a friends rifles at my house as he works up north a lot and I also am reloading for the said rifles, and I am just wondering if it is legal for me to take his rifles up to the range to test out some reloads. I have my restricted PAL, and I did not think it would make any difference but then again do not want to fall foul of the law. Thanks ahead for any replies.
P.S. Great forum by the way...

With non restricteds it should be no problem as long as you have the certs or copies of them with you.

I dont think you can with restricteds, I dont think you can get an ATT for someone's firearms other than yours but I will leave that up to someone who knows forsure.

As far as I know, you can lend any firearm to another person so long as they are licenced for that class (non restricted, restricted, ect) of firearm, and you give them the registration certificates.

Non restricteds are not a problem.

Regarding borrowing restricteds, from Silvercore's site:
http://www.silvercore.ca/FAQ.htm

Q: Can I borrow a friend's restricted firearm to shoot at the range?

You will need a valid PAL, a copy of his or her registration certificate, and ATT (authorization to transport) that allows you to borrow restricted firearms.

If you take a course from Silvercore, we will show you how to obtain an all encompassing ATT for this purpose.

have my restricted PAL,

Do you not have Non-Restricted on your PAL?

If you have Restricted and Non-Restricted you can possess his firearms. You must have a copy of the Registration certificate for each one, and you must store them legally.

You are allowed to store, transport* and shoot his guns if you are licensed and have the registration certs.

(*If you have any Restricteds you must have an ATT to move them.)

You are allowed to shoot your reloads in his guns, but out of courtesy you ought to tell him you are planning on doing that. I might be mistaken on this but you are not legally allowed to give your reloads to him; he has to load his own.

Are you referring to OP's ATT or the friend's ATT?

As long as you have the certs, you're good to go. I'd also think its a good idea to let your friend know you may be using them once in a while just in case a LEO looked a little deeper into the case (common sense....)

I do have non restricted on my license and yes he does know about the reloads and the using of them, I just thought I had better check to be sure. Thanks for all of the replies, guys...

A registration certificate issued under the Firearms Act does not have to be renewed unless the firearm is modified in a way that changes its class. When a firearm changes ownership, it will be registered to the new owner as part of transfer process. When someone borrows a firearm, they must also borrow the registration certificate for that firearm.
