Using up surplus 5.56

Bolt guns are usually much more forgiving. As long as the guns are chambered for 5.56 and the ammo is within spec, I can't imagine why it wouldn't. If the guns are chambered for .223 then you might have some concern, but I'd probably still shoot it.
 
My Ruger Ranch 5.56 fires Barnaul with no problems. On the other hand my Ruger M77 7.62x39 sometimes needs to hit the primer twice on a surplus ammo.
