I would like to use one type of powder in both my .30.06 and .243. I have a Hornady reloading data book that does not list N-160 as powder for .243 Winchester. I went to the loading data on the VihtaVuori site and it shows it N-160 can be used with 100 gr Speer Grand Slam bullet in .243.

I am new to this and at the supply gathering stage of reloading and would like some input from the veterans on this one. Are powders that bullet brand specific?

Not that specific. I used to use 160 with Sierra Gamekings in my wife's 243. As a rule, you can use the Grand Slam data on GK's and Interlocks. Works great for 100 grain bullets, btw.

I am going to load 180 SST's for the .30-06 and 100's for the .243. All will be hunting rounds. I ordered the 160 from Prophet river at a good price. I wasn't able to get any H4350 local at the time. Now my local guy has cases of it as of today.

I have burned about 12 lbs of N160 so far, and it is an excellent powder in 30-06 for 165 and 180 grain bullets.
AAMOF, In 2 of my 30-06 rifles, it consistently outperformed both H4350 and IMR 4350.

I never used it in 243, but have a very good load at 3125 fps with the 100 Partition in the 6mm Remington.

Regards, Dave.
