If a compact gun can do what a full size gun can then there's no need for the full size.
A compact will never be able to do what a full size can for the purposes that Canadians are allowed to use them.

So why do you say you "don't understand the fixation that Canadians seem to have with compact handguns"?
HAHA, read a book my friend...

I understand completely that different strokes for different folks. I'm not even saying that I'd never buy a 19, but given the conditions under which we can shoot handguns in Canada there's a disproportionate number of people who want a 19 over a 34.
But they're very different beasts—and I've owned both. The 19 is a fun-to-shoot little pistol (even with a Canadian-legal barrel length) and is (arguably) the best combat handgun ever made. There's a certain "pride in ownership" of having one. The 34 is a great pistol in its own right, but it's more suited for competition shooting, or shooting at longer distances...say, past 20m or so. Not everyone is interested in that type of shooting.I understand completely that different strokes for different folks.
