Wow thats dumb! Replacing SAWs with any kinda rifle will effectively neuter the squads fire power. Ghay.

No mag fed can do the job of a belt gun.

:agree: I'm no military guy, but having to swap out mags just like everyone else??? How does that give an advantage?
So that particular soldier will have to carry 30 or 40 mags now?

Seems weird:cool:

Oddly enough, a Dane was telling me that they were looking at procuring either Minimis or MG43s to replace their own Automatic Rifles with a beltfed. Huh.

you cannot have a support weapon being fed through 30rnd mags...it just doesn't work!

The 2 C9's in an infantry section provide 60-70% of the firepower because they can sustain their rate of fire. You'd have to be using those funky "snail" magazines, or else your gunners are going to be carrying 20mags each just to get a standard battle load...let along what the rest of the section will have to carry to support it...

That being said, I WANT ONE!

Okay...besides the FG42...

The automatic rifle is a failed concept, but if I had to choose:

and I have a personal horror story on those..

there is no way and no how the USMC is replace the SAW with a 30 round anything...

massive speculation

The M249 / C9 was Ok. It will keep the enemy's arses down. :dancingbanana::dancingbanana::
But for real fire power I rather be supported by the C6 / GPMG. I know it's 7.62 but my old school teaching was to create as much damage to the enemy. IMO hit them hard - that's the way to do it. ::shotgun:

Then why not just replace them straight up?

Because the Marine Corp's wants a Lighter Squad Automatic Rifle to be feed from a Drum Magazine or standard magazine only they have run this competitions trial for several years but everything they have tested to date has failed .

Colt has a prelim order of 10,000 units already. There is a 65 round mag presently under development for these guns.

Henry;)
