Forgive the lack of knowledge but here it is: my brother says the marine corps M40A3 are prohib but I cant find any info on the topic. Anyone know anything about it or actualy own the rifle? I know the rifle is essentialy a Rem. 700 with aftermarket stock and barel, along with some minor adjustments to the action. If the rifle is prohib in Can. can I still buy the Remington and add the aftermarket parts or will the parts indirectly be prohib. too?

Thanks for the future input,
Nick

You can get MacMillan stocks here, there just hard to get around here, and no the M40 type rifles are not prohibited. But you wont be able to get an actual m40 since there custom made by marine corps armorers for marines. But you can make yourself a very close reproduction if you have the time and money. I'm not an expert on precision rifles, but I hope that helps.

Parts you need are a remington 700 action, krieger barrel I believe, MacMillan A3 stock and a Schmidt and Bender optic.

I'm sure someone will chime in with the exact ingredients, but a quick look on snipershide shows the A3 barrel to be made by Schneider. If you wanted to be 100% faithful to the original there is a lot of other things to be done to the rifle and action. Most of the mods are to enable the rifle to put up with far more abuse than any of us are likely to give it. (especially after you've spent maybe $5-7k putting it together). The faithful reproductions I've seen all look mint, with all the durability mods rendered irrelevant.

(Note that for generally far less money you could build a rifle that would be essentially the same or even better, with the shooter being the difference).

Do the pictures work for you in that thread?
dont work for me either, yeah the action is tweaked by the marine corps, I think they might add a different trigger assembly but im not sure. As for the barrel, it is made by schneider. I think im going to go with the Rem. 700 5S, add the McMillan A4. Does anybody know if the "Schneider 610 /24-inch, 6-groove, 1:12" match-grade heavy barrel" (quoted from wiki, correct me if im wrong please) is available in Canada? Thanks heaps for the input everybody!

Rick at Alberta Tactical has a fair amount of experience building clones and he is using Mike Rock barrrels that have CUT 5R groove/rifling. Schneider are only buttoned.

My M40A3

Doh, corrected, he has the M40A3. No the pics are not working for me anymore. I will ask him to repost the pics.

Fixed the links. I had cleaned up my photobucket and forgot to correct the links.

Here they are anyways:

Oh, and nothing on that rifle is prohibited from civilians. This is a non-restricted hunting rifle that just looks super cool:D

She's a beauty - but get prepaired for sticker shock if you want one.

This rifle cost me over $8000 with everything I went through to have it built, as well as the length of time to gather everything to build it.

Cheers, Carl

are the aftermarket parts that much?! im not getting the Schmidt and Bender
scope after all, probably going with Leupold. Did you have any work done on the action or are the parts seriously that pricey?

I was just called away to find the Booga Bear, success. Like an good friend says, the Canadian Cadet Bisley Rifle Team has better guns than the USMC snipers do. And no he is not Canadian.
