not really ....I want something light and compact . Already own a TRP OP and a Ruger markIII with bull barel . I want something different this time .

I'd prefer the USP but I shoot well with both. That being said I don't enjoy the grip angle of Glocks, but thats nothing a houge grip can't fix.

If you are considering the glock you also might want to look at the xd. I was interested in the glock then someone told me about the xd. I got one and am happy with it. Cheaper and I think better then the glock.

G17 is closer to a USP in size, G19 is smaller... In the states HK costs twice as much as G19; here they cost about the same.

I'd say get M&P great pistol and for the money way better deal than either!

While both the USP and Glock are good choices, have you seen the S&W M&P ? very similar to both of those but better refinement in the grip department and a better trigger. The slides are stainless under black coating and they are cheap to boot.

How does the Hogue grip change the gawd-awful grip angle of a Block?

With or without rubber grooves, it's still the same angle isn't it?

USP. Accurate, reliable, looks better, mag release is easier to use with one hand, and it isn't a cheapo-everyone-and-his-dog-has-one-Glock. That being said, HK's are going to set you back more $$ for the both the gun and the mags and accessories like mags and pouches will probably have to be ordered in. Feel up both and see what you like.

you can change the USP to so many different variants with the purchase of different detent plates. (ie: lever safety only, decock only, ;left side, right side, ambi, decock and safety,etc...)

OP; I think the main question you need to ask your self is do you want an all double action internal gun like a Glock, or do you want a USP is a SA/DA with safety and a decocker. (depending on the variants)

I dunno, the finger grooves help me get my big paws around it and make it feel more like a gun than, as you said, a block. Still I'll never own one. Much rather get an XD as that angle works for me nicely.

Thanks a lot guys for ur inputs , really apreciate it . I guess ill continue my research and be patient . Guess trying both is the 1st thing i should do .Ive tried a glock b4 but didnt really like the way it felt in my hands but that was 8 years ago . Ill look up for the S&W , dont really like the XD . thanks again !!

As a range gun the USP is superior, with better sights and a reasonable single action trigger. The G19 is a proper carry pistol, with nothing to hang up on your clothing and a simple manual of arms. As the chaces of you having a CCW are minimal, I'd look at the USP for fun shooting.

You might want to check out this thread I did awhile back comparing the USP 9mm and the G17 with two other guns:

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=144500

I have the G17 and the USP. I like both and both will continue to make many trips to the range for years to come.

I think that some of the above advice is good: decide what kind of gun you want then decide what brand you want. A simple pull the trigger and that's it-type gun, or a more "tech"-type gun with SA/DA, decocker, safety, recoil reduction system, different variants, etc. The first category would be things like Glock, XD, Steyr M-A1, S&W M&P, Walther P99QA, SIGs with the DAK trigger, etc. Second category would things like the SA/DA USP's, P22X SIG's with SA/DA Walther P99AS, and most of the guns you see in the shops by Beretta, CZ, IMI "Baby Eagle", etc.

HK's gun that competes with the Glock 19, would be more like the P2000 LEM, which unfortunately is not available to us in Canada due to barrel length.

If you handle both guns you are interested in, you will find the USP to have a much larger feel to it than the G19. The G19 is 6.85 inch long and 5 inch high, whereas the USP is 7.64 long and 5.35 high... so almost an inch longer... and an inch is huge in handguns. The USP is also somewhat wider than a Glock and sits higher in your hand.

G19's are not as soft shooting as G17's, and USP 9mm's are very soft shooting due to the recoil reduction system, so that is a difference that you may want to consider.

Everything with handguns is personal preferance. I would get the USP though. I love that gun. Mine hasn't stayed home a single weekend since I got it, whereas my other handguns sort of rotate through a cycle of range duty. And taking something to the range and shooting most of your 9mm rounds through it every weekend, that is probably the biggest compliment you can give to a handgun design.

I agree completely ...
