usp vs xd

The XD is ok... but its direct competition has got to be the Glock.

Perhaps theres no resale on XDs? Thats why theres none for sale? ;)

I saw a person using an XD the same weekend on my squad, I lost count of his jams, he was hitting it off the ground to unjam it! In the guns defence, the shooter was using reloaded ammo, but then so was I.
.

With a 3-4000 rounds of reloads, 115, 125 lead, 125, 147 copper plate, no jams. Bet they guy beside you needs to buy a taper crimp die. All pistols choke on crappy loads.

True, I've had plenty of jams on one of my USPs, but it was when I first started reloading. The OAL of the cartridge was slightly too long, and thus there was not enough pressure building up in the chamber to reliably cycle the slide. Had tons of feeding problems in my first batch of 100. No probs once I addressed the loading error.

I've also shot 1000s of rounds of factory ammo through various USPs, and I've had only 1 jam using factory ammo. It was with Winchester white box and a USP 9mm.

So am I to understand that German engineering is inferior to Croatian engineering? Come on guys. They are two different pistols and as far as the quality is concerned, H&K is superior to the Springfield. If Springfield's MSRP was the same as the price of the H&K, which would you choose? The XD is a fantastic pistol and I much prefer it over the Glock (because of the trigger). This isn't a jab at the Glock either so don't you Glock lovers get your panties in a bunch. I've owned one and put over 10,000 rounds (both factory & reloads) through mine and it never once hiccuped. The XD is the only other true .40S&W pistol. It was designed from the ground up as a .40 cal unlike other .40S&W pistols.

Getting back to the original post. If you can only afford the XD, get it. If you can afford to drop more coin, get the H&K. The only downside is learning to use the safeties on the USP (if you're not yet familiar with them). The XD, like the Glock is a "no brainer" and that's a big plus for those new to handguns. That's all I got to say about that.

D_ : You know I heard that some of them XD's go kaboom from time to time due to their poor workmanship;) Ya think that'll get him to bite??

Being an owner of both ... my personal opinion (which, BTW, doesn't mean sh*t) I REALLY like the XD better. Less money and to me it is JUST AS GOOD a pistol. I find the XD fits MY hand better too. The only advantage I see in this particular comparison is that the USP *may* hold its resale a little better but that's only because the XD's are getting to be a lot more common. I really can't find any reason not to buy an XD over a USP. Just by thoughts.

Regards,

I own the XD40 and a pair of Glocks, I did not like the ergnomics of the USP. I love my XD more than my Glocks and it is still my favorite pistol. I am not the type pf person who buys by the brand name.

I've seen Pops hit a 12" gong at 125 metres with his XD.

A most of that is due to skill, but having a good tool helps as well.

Where was the engineering done on the XD?

Does it matter?

Did not Browning do all his design work in a shed out back of his house in rural USA. If anybody posting here does not know his contribution to firearms there time may be better spent doing some reading and getting time in the field.

In my books being an expert on a subject or even offering an opinion of value does not come from cutting down others or talking loud.

But we see this silly "mine is better than yours" and "only an idiot would buy" on discussion forums on bows and quads too.

We all know guys with the toys in the closet collecting dust. They don't come out with us any more. In some cases I think they got tired of being made to feel lame cause they "only have a 30 06, a 500cc quad, a 2 year old bow etc.

My father in law gave up hunting last year. He was 78. Hunted every year since he was a kid. Owned one rifle. Carried the same rifle for over 50 years.

Another thought is, how do you plan on holstering it? The XD has a fairly limited selection of holsters, being new, where-as the USP has been acquainted with every gun-leather worker in the world...

You're really serious...????
Click on "gun type" with most holster makers/providers....you'll find the XD just as often (if not more so) than the USP. ;)
Why do these conversations always end up with more reasons to NOT buy a certain gun than to buy one... :(

Actually it was an 8" gong on a chain and the range was 165yards. I nailed it 3 times out of one magazine but I do a lot of shooting but...Neither recce, Reaper or Gord had shot the XD before this attempt and they had all hit it as well, they all hit the same gong from the same 165yds...

It is the most accurate pistol I own/owned.

Popurhedoff, recce, and Reaper with XD40 and gong.

Most people don't like the USP because of the grip, I've found people with smaller hands just can't get the feel of it.

I have made an extreme effort to try all the pistols I can so I can say to myself what is good and what is lacking.

I get a kick out of all your comments, and enjoy threads like this.

I had my buddies XD .45 while he was in the Stan working as an EOD operator and he gave me permission to put as many rounds thru it as I wanted and I found it an excellant piece of kit.

To compare one to the other, hmmmmmmmmmm, tough call. I think it boils down to personal preference. Definatly try both and then make your choice. Words don't count for shi#t once the brass starts to fly.

I let everyone try my .45 and other than the hand size thingy, I have always gotten rave reviews, this bugger is really accurate.

I did have a problem once I mounted the M6 on it for a holster so I bought one with an adjustable external velcro strap. Works awesome for me and is dual retention.

And I just can't pass this up! FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS BUY GLOCKS!!!

Catch me on the range and I'll let you pound a few mags thru fine piece or Geman engineering!!

P

(was going to put my finger on the trigger to raise shi#, but just let it go:( )
