USPSA In Ontario

Ok, so I'll take it your lack of response as to when you've been involved to be what I thought - decades ago; and you're obviously a legend in the shooting community.
(or at least in your own mind) I bow to how good you once shot.

But - you've proven to be what I thought you were - a grumpy-old-curmudgeon-keyboard-commando who is speaking out of ignorance.
You have no knowledge whatsoever of today's IPSC or today's USPSA matches.
One is as much fun as the other, and like Ken says - there's no difference other than our brothers to the south using a different target most of the time.

Live in the past & dream of how good you once were, grandpa.
The rest of us will be at the ranges having fun shooting both USPSA and IPSC.

Oh, and welcome to my ignore list...

I disagree. You are using the same base of people to run matches at the same clubs.

I believe you would tend to get a similar overall number of matches , just less IPSC.

Not in Alberta. Most of the IPSC matches are sold out in hours, sometimes minutes. People want to shoot more here.

Thanks Opcx6, I'm very fortunate to have been shooting so long!

I do like the USPSA rule book better but really don't see any difference in the stages. I think stages will vary more in different locations and between different match directors rather than which shooting organization it is.

I was there, Ken, when the match was stolen from you, IMHO. Sean is grumpy, isn't he?

How easy it is to resort to name calling and slander.

Yes, that was a long time ago and I've had so many bigger and better matches, I don't ever think about the other ones. It's always nice to win but after a while, it's just not as important anymore. I quit cowboy shooting soon after I won the US Nationals, I just got bored with it.

I guess if I had to sum it up, I would say that shooting is about the people, not the guns. It just takes time to learn that. And if it's not fun, drop it and do something else, I know I will.

Sean has a job that nobody else wants. That's not to say I agree with everything but I'm certainly glad he's doing it!

It is the same here, almost impossible to get into a match. We used to have IDPA at Sharon once a month and that was great, also a few Action Pistol matches but no more. My excuse for becoming a curmudgeon!:nest:

You are right, of course, and I am sure he is doing a great job. More power to him.

I too tried Cowboy and very soon got bored winning everything I entered here. Just another rat race of more and more equipment mods.

It is indeed about the people, some days I go to the club and don't even shoot, just enjoy the comaraderie and the people, instruct new shooters.

When someone asks what it was like in the beginning and you tell them the look of awe on their faces at the fun we used to have, all the stories, is priceless!

But then, I am just a curmudgeon!!!

For anybody who hasn't shot both, if you shot one, you shot both. Targets can be slightly different and there are a few small rule differences. I would say what makes IPSC a bit harder is that it's usually a bit more athletic than USPSA. The A zone on the targets are a bit smaller in IPSC but that doesn't make them easier when they're covered with no-shoots or on a swinger.

Thanks for the clarification.

That shouldn't be required for all your ranges, only the ones with low berms or houses behind. Steel loads are light, like cowboy loads. Do the cowboys have to shroud everything too?

All steel has to be shrouded by CFO Decree.

Chief Firearms Office - Ontario Shooting Clubs and Ranges Newsletter - 2015 Issue 6 said:
Steel Reactive Targets
The following conditions regarding steel
reactive targets use will be placed on Page 3 of
your Shooting Range Approval:
All steel targets must be bunkered for regular day to
day use and shrouded for competition use.
All steel targets shall be shrouded or clad with a
covering constructed of wood and is designed to
protect exposed steel hinges, angled or plate steel,
bases or other mechanisms used to operate the
steel, so as to eliminate random ricochets from
bullet strikes to that portion of the target array that is
not intended as the striking surface of the target.
This is to include bases, supports or stands used in
conjunction with the targets.

That's unreasonable, any chance of getting it changed? There's a huge difference shooting steel gongs with a .308 and shooting SC plates with 900 fps 9mm or cowboy loads

Don't know about Cowboy, been a long time since I did that, but probably. Damn, we shot steel at less than a yard and nobody died, now it has to be shrouded and at least 10 yards away.
I remember the Nats in Saskatoon, there was a target in a second floor window and just blue sky beyond. I did a Mozambique on it, 2 A's and a C.

All the trophies and medals, plaques and guns don't mean anything in the end. Only memories.

Hey Sean did you pull out of my squad at Summer Fun or was it them changing squadding around? Just not sure how sad I should be. I'm sad either way. Lmao
