Why is it that IPSC now does not do MultiGun.....Why wasn't it set up that way from the get go? Just curious as to the History of why it was developed in to separate Matches, and not combined?
Dunno - My half-informed guess is that it was because shotgun and rifle grew from different locales and groups in the World. The big pushers of shotgun being the Brits (Since they have nothing else) and the big pushers of rifle being the scandinavians.

IPSC is a pistol game because.. Well because that's what it was set up for.
My position re IPSC staring up 3-gun is that the game will then come with everything else IPSC.
ie. Mandatory membership BB classes and the "classic" target.

I say let IPSC remain a primarily pistol sport.

On a side note... Maybe a better way to go would be to forgo the creation of a Canadian 3-gun org on favor of an org that sets up bus trips to US matches for Canadian shooters... A 3-gun tour company. :)

Hmmmm.......my idea would be to open up more shooting sports opportunities in Canada, not ship people elsewhere!

Hey... I'm just sayin'.. Just an idea ;-)

Think of this though... What would you rather do?
Set up and run a huge 3-gun org with all the associated headaches or...
Just pay a fee, go shoot and even when you place 97th out of 201 still get aprize worth$300..

I've MD'd a few multi gun events. The first was actually a four gun.
The last one back in Oct. A three gun...
Although I'd call 'em successful the number of shooters for any of 'em was never higher than 50.
You can get 50 guys on a bus. :)

I find myself agreeing with most points 667 is stating here except the bus trip.

There are lots of people interested in 3 gun across Canada but not interested to go through the hoops of some of the shooting organizations already present in this country. I believe it would be better to start something fresh.

Greg

Can you imagine what the border crossing would be like for 50 shooters and all their gear.....Homeland Security would have a fit......

Naaaaaaah... They might be annoyed having to check 50 F6NIA permits, but they've always been good to me and my traveling companions.

Jplus...a lot of people may come out to a 3 gun make with their 700 dollar ARs...but those wouldn't be allowed across the border

Anyone in the sw Ontario area wanting to shoot some good 3-gun look up Bluewater sportsmens assoc. Michigan3guncombat and Livingston Gun Club MI3gun
Bwsa is just a few minutes across the bridge from Sarnia and Livingston is in Brighton MI.
Both clubs run a good program and there's no need to join any org.
It'll give you a taste and then you'll be hooked

We can easily have those calibre of Matches in Ontario, and the rest of Canada!

If there were 4 or 5 Clubs in Ontario, each one host a match per year, and that could agree to a rule set, then we can have a Provincial Championship. Get some sponsors, prizes, I can't imagine something like this wouldn't grow!

No. Rifle and Shotgun rules have been in place for a long time so the natural progression is to merge the three. All it would take is one small rule book to say - "here's what to do when you merge all three books."

As for an IPSC Multigun requiring black badges and IPSC Membership, I have no problem that.

We have that... ODPL. Mostly handgun but a few multi gun matches here and there.
In my opinion it's grown to about as big as it's gonna get. Lots of guys talk about coming out for big three gun matches but...

I for one would love to see this grow here and would actively participate.
I've had my shotguns and rifles set up for over a year now.
Have to get off my ass, get my form 6 and shoot in the states.

I'm in the early stages of trying to get something going at my club, we'll see how far we can get.

As for rules to follow, you guys know better than I do, but wouldn't using existing IPSC rules work, and we fill in the blanks where necessary (i.e. establish rules regarding transitioning to the next firearm)

Rules as well as divisions are established for each of the 3 guns.

Side note,
I think the first IPSC shotgun world shoot is taking place in 2012, in Hungary.
Who wants to send a Canadian Team??
I'm going to try and go to this if my 2011 works out as planned.

If people were really interested they'd get the equipment.
I know I sound like an a**hole, but... If I wanted to start playing hockey I'd have to go get myself a pair of skates and a stick.
You either have "the sickness" or you don't.
I'm all for welcoming people into a game, but watering down the rules in order to accommodate EVERYONE's gear isn't gonna help at all

Well 667, i do agree with you on that. My hope is that the people that want to shoot but don't have all the equipment will have fun and end up upgrading.
Just trying to generate interest, get people involved.Any way possible.
Started with 5 of us and now looks like around 25 shooters for 2011.

He's my suggestion... Take for whatever y'think it's worth.

It you're interested in contributing to the madness that is 3-gun action shooting and have access to suitable facilities pick a date, come up with a CoF, determine who will be allowed to shoot (as far as training/experience goes) and host a match.
If you've done IPSC matches in the past, Great. The skills/experience are transferable.

Call it whatever you want.
Doesn't need to be affiliated by any established org.
Can be a one off thing. Annual. Bi-Monthly... whatever.
My biggest caveat... and I'm sure to get #### for it here is that you should set the rules re. divisions and equipment and stick to 'em.

You won't be able to please or include everyone who "would like to try". Again with the hockey analogy.. If You wanna play get some skates and get yourself a stick. 'Show up with a golf club and well... 'Sorry.

This'll tell you how many shooters are really interested in shooting the game.... for lack of a better word, properly.

To potential shooters.... Do the MD and RO's a favour and at least get to know your gear. Practice a bit before match day. Don't over dress for the event. Oh... and read the goddamn rules.

I like this.

That's my biggest pet peeve. Show up to some match and the rules change as the hour changes. Not really for safety but this or that will beat me so the rules have to change for me to compete.

I did a 3-gun match in Kamloops a couple of months ago. Had an absolute blast.
I had to drive up from North Van so it was a five hour drive at 3am in the PISSING rain. Shoot the match and then drive home.
I used my IPSC G20, my brand new never fired a single round before FS2000, and my Grizzly Mag. I was stuffing mags in the pockets of my pants because I didn't have my vest yet. And I still had a great time. I actually did pretty good too.
As for the rules they were pretty straight forward. Mostly taken from other 3-gun competitions rule books I think. 95% of the rules are the same anyway.

I don't think this is to much to ask! This has been my stumbling block at certain events......there seems to be roving rule sets depending on who is shooting.....ie. the rules change mid stage......that is a huge detractor!

You won't be able to please or include everyone who "would like to try". Again with the hockey analogy.. If You wanna play get some skates and get yourself a stick. 'Show up with a golf club and well... 'Sorry.

I realize not everyone will be able to be included, what I would like to see is a rule set that the majority can agree to......like I have previously stated, a provincial and National championship is where I would like to see it move to, so a Rule set that is non-roving has to be in place......USPSA rules seem to be pretty comprehensive, and there is no guessing what division a person is in, as well as the general rules are set. I know the poll is a little impromptu, but it certainly seems as if USPSA rules are pretty popular!

This is always good advice!
