I'm going south for the winter and hope to be able to take my guns. That will happen if I can work my way through our sludge in time to get the documentation from the ATF. I had a question about IPSC and what we need in the US to compete. I contacted the USPSA with a couple of simple newbie questions and got a quick response from a person called Robin, (robin@uspsa.org) We exchanged several friendly emails yesterday and I got my information and more. All in all it was a very pleasant experience. My hat is off to Robin who represents the organization in an excellent manner.

Form 6 isn't gonna take long to process, make sure you note overal gun lenth, I believe that field in their form isn't working (cannot type in there).
You'll need safety check from a RO or CRO that is free and should take 30-60 minutes and may be 100rds of ammo. Then you are good to compete.
It'd be a good idea to get membership with USPSA too....

Safety check?? been shooting in the USA for years now never once been asked to prove I'm a safe shooter... although they probably should have...lol

I'm heading to Casa Grande AR and will likely shoot at the club in Scottsdale which sounds pretty nifty. They have all sorts of services there and monthly matches in IDPA and USPSA. My contacts with them so far have been very good. I got a US hunting license, will register in advance for matches and just to cover all bases, get an invitation to compete too. I go for six months and so can't afford any sort of screw up. I'm also a newbie and am learning every day the hard way and by using all the help I can get. Thanks! One follow up question? When I was in Texas last winter, ammo was scarce. How much will they let you cross with? I was thinking of taking two cases.

Remember to get an admission number

At the border, on your way in, don't forget to ask the CBP agent for an admission number. (This will prove the date that you entered the U.S., and it will keep your options open in the event that you want either to buy anything down there or to apply for a firearms license down there.) You can get it only during admission, and only at the border, so pay the US$6. and just get it.

CBP I-94

What you need to do is get an I-94...Admission Number from the American CBP (border patrol) officials at a US border crossing.

The do not normally issue these to Canadians but you can ask for one for a fee of $6.00.

You'll be issued a white card with a rather long number on it. The long number is your Alien Admission Number.

Be careful not to end up in Arkansas (Arizona's state code is AZ, not AR) :)

Don't miss the Rio Salado range...which is considered the Mecca of the practical shooting universe. http://www.riosaladosportsmans.com/

Dillon Precision is also right there: http://www.dillonprecision.com/
