USSOCOM replaces eotechs, with... eotechs.

USSOCOM Replaces EOTech Sights With EOTech Sights
Naval Surface Warfare Center – Crane Division, acting as the program office for special operations weapons procurement on behalf of United States Special Operations Command has announced a $23,637,320 contract to L-3 Communications EOTech for Close Quarters Battle Sights. We do not yet have verification of which model was selected.

As you may recall, in September, 2015, we broke the story of severe issues with EOTech Holographic Weapon Sights. Ultimately, many (but not all) units within USSOCOM withdrew the sights from service and the US Department of Justice charged L-3 Communications with fraud. L-3 settled for over $25 million. This led to a massive commercial refund program by EOTech, taking back virtually any EOTech sight identified by costumers.

SOF units tested and fielded various interim replacements and USSOCOM undertook a formal program to identify a replacement as part of their Miniature Aiming System – Day suite of optics. This contract award is a result of that effort.

Internally, EOTech cleaned house, fixed their production issues, and introduced the VUDU line of telescopic sight. It’s a testament to the dedication of EOTech that they were able to turn themselves in three years and win the business back. I’m impressed.

Well , was on the fence about getting another eotech , which I love that sight or getting another MRO , looks like I'm replacing my eotech with a eotech as well .lol

Same. Took my 552 off of my Swiss Arms when the whole thing blew up, I've been looking at an EXPS3 for a while now... Have a Vortex Venom on it right now and I miss the 552....

For folks like us, these sights are not a problem, recently made the conversion myself with the magnifier, with my "old eyes" the reticle is slightly better than the H1. I also like the built in mount, easy to adjust etc. These are kinda a "one stop shop sight" just take it out of the box and mount it. YMMV.

Anyone can make a bad and unreliable sight of course, just like anyone can make a knife and cut their own throats with it. But people did like the Eotech concept and of course they must also be well connected at the Pentagon.

They have the money to waste when they decide they need Aimpoints, and then back to Eotech again.

L3 Technologies are a really big player in advanced gear for a lot of governments. I think they are one of the top ten/twenty military contractors.
Their Eotech line of gun sights is peanuts compared to the advanced systems they make for aircraft, ships, tanks.....

The quick settlement with the government, the quick buyback offered to civilian customers, and rapid replacement of the old sights with fixed models, just proves they were not willing to dirty their name, for a minor part of their market.

They were not going anywhere, for a little hiccup with a rifle sight.

While I didn't follow the EOTECH story very closely when it first broke, I was using Aimpoints. Can a SME chime in about what state we are at? I just purchased a new EXPS-3 so I'm guessing that any previous issues have been corrected? Thanks

Lol, you cant be serious.

The only experience I had were with the 552 series. They were not reliable. It be nice if they offered IOP up here. EXPS3 cost around $400USD for good guy price.

Whats funny is people making fun of NSWC Crane tests that found out the defects but yet they are also the ones responsible for approving the new purchase.

The EOTech I used to own worked great, never an issue with it. Only sold as switched to a scope platform

My guess, as stated by others, this has more to do with where the product is made than anything else.
