USSOCOM replaces eotechs, with... eotechs.

While I didn't follow the EOTECH story very closely when it first broke, I was using Aimpoints. Can a SME chime in about what state we are at? I just purchased a new EXPS-3 so I'm guessing that any previous issues have been corrected? Thanks

Good to go. Technical issues were resolved and apparently L3 cleaned house at eotech.

From what I understand, the sights
manufactured between Jan. 1, 2005 and Nov. 1, 2016
were refundable due to
The four issues listed in the EOTech class action lawsuit include “reticle dimming” from moisture incursion, “thermal drift,” parallax, and distortion of the reticle in cold weather.

Basically, if the inspection date on the box and underneath the sight is after the date I posted above, after Nov. 1, 2016, then you should not experience the 4 issues listed above however if you do have a sight between those dates, it could have one or all of the issues mentioned.

The only experience I had were with the 552 series. They were not reliable. It be nice if they offered IOP up here. EXPS3 cost around $400USD for good guy price.

Whats funny is people making fun of NSWC Crane tests that found out the defects but yet they are also the ones responsible for approving the new purchase.

The issue with the Model 552 was that the recoil of the rifle firing would cause the batteries to vibrate back and forth causing reliability issues because the batteries are parallel with the rifle. On the newer versions of the sight, a CR123 battery is placed perpendicular to the rifle.

A lot of people experience this because they are looking at the reticle instead of looking through it with both eyes open.

Exactly. If you dont have a stigmatism, then chances are your eye was not properly focused and blurred the reticle, i find this only really happens when you say pull it out of the box it came in and hold it up to look through with out having it properly mounted to a rifle and looking at a target beyond the sight.

There were more issues with it than just the battery compartment.

Always thought the EOTech has the best CQB reticle. I’ve been a fan of the sight and have never had an issue. Shot mine in 35C weather. Zeroed. Shot at -30C weather. Still zeroed.

When the “zero shift” story broke, I didn’t feel the need to return a perfectly good sight. Wish the battery life was better, but batteries are cheap and easily stored in the grip.

the only issues I am familiar with, is old designs have problems with battery contracts, and then there was the thermal shift (I want to say up to 6 moa shift??). Ironically it has amazingly little parallax shift. Most red dot manufacturers claim 0 moa parallax shift, but are very far from it.
