USSR Tokarev Pistol

This gun has been intruiging me for quite some time. I suspect I'll be buying one in the new year. I have a question though, I keep reading that it's got pretty decent recoil. That is a good thing for me. Most of the reason I shoot a handgun is because I think recoil is fun. I've actually shot a chinese tok in 9mm and I wasn't impressed. I'm not particularly fond of 9mm. The same day at the range I was shooting my .45 so it just wasn't as fun. So I know the 7.62x25 pops more than the 9mm but how does it compare to other handgun rounds. I've shot 9mm, 38 sp, .45 acp, .357 magnum. Please let me know where it fits in this spectrum. Also, I shoot at langley range where they don't allow magnums (inside handgun). Can it be shot inside? FWIW I'm thinking about joining another range also so that isn't a big deal anyway.
thanks,
dh

Where it fits the spectrum is hard to say, especially as these surplus rounds
with their steel core penetrate a 14" pine log, and heavily dent the 1/4"steel plate behind it.
None of my other calibers, 10mm included, did a job like that.
I used European brass cased loads in my Broomhandle (C96) with my own
12" barrel (Carbine look ) without steel core, and it did the same.

The recoil of any Tokarev was never punishing and can be shot
for hours. Very good ear-muffs are a must!
Shooting with the 9mm barrel is a pussy cat and "milder" loads will not
function reliably, unless the spring has been cut 2 coils.

Here's what's left of my old CZ, after 2 rounds of Norinco ammo(which is not nearly as hot as Czech):( Apparently there was a factory defect. After this, I wanted to change my CGN nickname to something else:runaway:

I like your humor ! Also your good picture.

I think I will go over to my aquaintance and take pictures of
his CZ 52's, or what's left of it, just to make you feel better,
if that is possible.

Here are the promised pictures !!
On No. 1 CZ 52 , barrel chamber (on bottom) blew apart. Rollers went south too! Slide still perfect
On No. 2 CZ 52 , Slide cracked at lock-up point. Barrel with roller delayed system in perfect condition.
Now I will make one complete unit out of the 2 sick ones. Will testfire for him with double safety glasses!

Not likely.

Ok, sounds like the milsurp ammo would cause big problems to the backstop at the inside range. I figured so. Still looks like a fun gun though and I think I'll have to pick one up sometime.

How much does a Russian or East European Tokarev in good shape typically sell for? And how hard are they to find?

I don't know about "up North" but in the US the ones without the added safety go for about $500 now. I've two a 1947 & 1952.

In my opinion, it has about the same recoil as my .45, but it does it in half the time  . Easily controllable, just real snappy.

TT 33 or Type 54 Norinco

For those who have any doubt how strong is well made Tokarev, see http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26582 . Double charge of what is prescribed as max for 357 in shorter case, pressure must be well over 100,000 PSI.

Involuntary entertainment with that site.
I never laughed so loud for quite some time.
worth reading though !
Good true American humor included!

I loved this part...
Clark wrote...I got into trouble once at the WSI indoor range.
Years ago I was in an incremental work up with a Kel-Tec and looking to see where the brass went. An employee spotted one of my shots hitting the floor in front of the targets. He told me if I couldn't hit the targets I could not shoot there. I had a couple tool chests full of pistols with me, so I took out my most accurate: a 44 mag loaded to the max. While the employee watched me, I took careful aim a shot. The gun was so loud it caused the florescent lamp over head to fall between me and the target. It looked like I just shot the ceiling.

LMFAO! That would have been fun to watch. :D

Neither of those are Russian or East European. Some people.

P&S Militaria has TT33's from Russia on sale for $325. Comes with 2 mags, holster cleaning rod and lanyard.

http://psmilitaria.users.50megs.com/frame.html

I'm not sure if I would pay that for one. As one could buy a Norinco, and order the holster, extra Mag, and the cleaning rod from the USA for approx $45 USD.

I am surprised Marstar doesn't offer similar holster, and etc kits with some of their Norinco T33's. If they did I would probably buy one pretty quick.

Norincos aren't exactly that collectible. You can't even compare them!

I'm not too fond of the Chinese made pistols. Except their police 9 mil, with the one hand cocker. I might have to pick that up just to be "ghetto".

in case you haven't seen it, there's been a clip of PUTIN on the range on the last couple of days, target shooting- and guess what he's using?- TOK 33- you can see the hammer in the shot- well if it's good enough for Vladimir,( nad he used to be kgb)
