The colours look cool, but this gun begs to be black.

I never have liked that shade of tan/brown. I guess I've just seen too much of that particular color coming out of my new little granddaughter lately. :) Give me a deeper, richer bronze/brown and I'd be all over it. Personal preferences I guess. That's why there are options.

I actually like the tan/FDE colour on guns, but the UTAS-15 is so wide that it makes that colour look overbearing/excessive.

A CGNer has a Patriot Brown UTAS-15. Which is quite nice. It's a factory colour, that was offered on previous generations I believe. It's darker, almost like a chocolate burnt bronze, minus the sparkle and orangey hue.

I just realized I'm pretty pooched being a lefty with this gun correct?

try youtube. LOTS of lefty shooting these. The gun is so tall (ugly?) that the ejection port sits below the chin and the rounds just sort of fall out downward. Doesn't look to be a problem. Ambi controls too on current gen.

Am I the only one who feels like he's living in bizarro world? In the USA, the Kel-Tec is considered the cheaper, less reliable sibling to the UTS15. Down there the KSG is a $800 gun and the UTAS is a $1300 gun.

Here in Canada, the reverse. UTAS is a $750 gun new and the KSG is being sold for extortionist prices, like $1300+

What gives?

Second oddity - several UTAS gen 3 and earlier guns on the EE right now, all of them $200+ more than CanAm is selling them for new. Priceless.

Another dealer has these for the same price. Color options also boosting the price $200.
Free shipping here and the breacher choke (if you want that) gives you savings of approx. $135. If you you consider getting the breacher free as a savings that is.

There is no way OD or FDE should add $200 to the price. If you want an appliqué dipped pattern or something, yes, but FDE or OD is just a different colour of base plastic and a different dye than black being used in the anodizing tank. From someone who has overseen these processes in a production environment, I can share with you it does not cost any more than making the stuff in black, provided there is a basic order quantity made to justify making a run.

I suspect it's not the Canadian retailer pocketing that windfall though. Probably the importer.

Yeah, the price of the colours doesn't reflect the cost of implementing them. It's based on it being a desirable feature, which can be profited on.

Now that color I like! 110% nicer than the generic tan imo.

This was my line of thinking too, although you definitely are more knowledgeable about the processes involved than I am. I mean it's not like we're talking Cerakote coatings or something like that. Shook my head a little at the $200 surcharge for color.
