UTG m14 tri rail users, please read

okies, as i've hinted in the past... i have developed an accessory to the utg tri rail to extend the rail back over the chamber.
However, I have not gone ahead with production but will be doing so once we have the new mill and lathe set up in the shop..... i'm counting the weeks :D

so, I need something from those of you running the UTG and those of you with a caliper handy.
I am fishing for numbers on the distance between the "top most" surface of the rail, down to the top most surface of the receiver where it buts to the rail.
so far i have measured 3 rifles and have slightly varying numbers. So the more of you that can send me a measurement in thousands of an inch, the more numbers i can compare for tolerance.

I'm not going to give deadlines or hints at when it will be availlable, but once the machines are installed and warmed up, it's the first order of business in a list of new m14 stuff i am hoping to bring to the table. It's an frustrating road but i'm sticking with it hehehe

You had better hurry with your UTG rail extension ...
Fabrice has posted that he will have UTG forend matching height rear section available, that fits into the stripper clip dovetail.

I will have my UTG rail extension .... which will be much longer, and much more sturdy, and tie in to the handguard ... available very soon.

Uuuh, so I should probably reconsider selling that tri-rail, huh?

Well, I'd love to give you measurements, but I lack the necessary measuring tools... definitely awaiting you guys's products though!

I have a new UTG rail and a slide caliper, and three Norcs ...
what EXACTLY do you need??
on my three Norcs, a rough average:
barrel OD = 1.1" aprox
Receiver = .1 above barrel top of barrrel approx.

as i said, i have 3 rifles here with utg rails but the measurement holly man is showing in the pic varies from rifle to rifle... so i'm seeking that number from folks to come up with an average for tolerance purposes.

keep em coming ;)
 
hope this helps - quite a variance but i double checked it with a depth mic.
2002 norinco -.382
2007 norinco - .377
2008 norinco - .405
3 different rails, mixed and matched on the different rifles, measurements are all within a couple thou of the above (major variance is in the receiver, not the rail)

7 out of 8 of the posted measurements (87.5%) are within 0.005" and 6 of the 8 (75%) are within 0.003", what are the numbers you already have, Thomas?
 
I am wondering about this wandering UTG rail height measurement?

I measured my three Norc 2007 models, and my three measurements were consistent. Before final tightening of the hand guard, I smacked the UTG down nice and tight, front and back. I also squared the top of the rail with the top of the receiver, and centered the BIG mounting screw hole in the side rail mount with the SMALLER screw hole in the side of the receiver, before tightening up the side screw, and then the four screws on the barrel bands.

This procedure seems to locate the UTG rail consistently for me on all three of my receivers.

With the UTG forend design, the rear end is held only at the side, so rotation of the entire handguard out of true is a possibility, if the band screws are tightened up first, and the side screw last???

I also wonder if there are any differences in height between the step at the barrel [ 1.1" approx ] to receiver. Do we have any numbers for this dimension???

ANY M14 UTG railed handguard "extension" or add on, depends on consistent rail heights for proper vertical alignment of the scope. If there are variations in the Chinese receivers, rather than variations caused by inconsistent mounting techniques, then I will have to add in some adjustability to my rear mount. While this could be done rather easily, I would prefer NOT to have to do this, as my design philosophy has always been,
"KISS", "parts left out cost nothing and rarely break", and " one piece that does several things things is better than several pieces".

So if I can make my rear mount one piece monolithic, AND make it a universal fit, I would be happier.
Feedbvack would be appreciated ...
and how is the field twesting going with the Fabsport clip guide mount??
