Looking at them they appear pretty much identical. In 55gr for a .223 would they perform pretty much the same accuracy wise and on gophers? I can't seem to find any 55gr V-Max bullets and was wanting to stick with the same brand because I have some 50gr V-Max and 55gr SPSX on the way that I will be doing some load development with as well as some 52gr HPBT. I've never used Sierra bullets before.

I think the 3 brands (Hornady, Sierra and Nosler) of bullets are just as explosive on gophers as the other. I have used all 3 successfully.
Obviously your rifle will determine which it likes the best, but if you are not into splitting hairs and groups in the 1/2 - 3/4" range are what you are looking for I think either would perform just as well for you.
I preferred the V-Max myself because they were more cost efficient and I could buy them in 1000pc bulk packs from a CGN member. They work very well in both my .223 and 22-250.
