As I understood it, the Nazis knew that their most prized architecture were targets for allied bombing run. Especially in areas like Munich, the birthplace of National Socialism. So what they did was take tiled architectural drawings, measurements and pictures of all these important buildings, like the Hoffbrauhaus, which was about 70% destroyed during the war. Afterwards, the recor they kept were used to restore those places in exacting detail. They are still rebuilding certain buildings, 60 years later.
