Vadada Optics

Ask about IOR and you will get far more responses. What do you want to know about them?
They are tough, durable, my 10X56 was lovely and crisp. No one had anything bad to say about it. Thier glass is sharp and bright.
If I ever buy another real rifle I will get another IOR for it. Maybe not the 10X, but certainly a 6X or 8X.
They are well worth the money.

IOR Valdada is a Romainian company that has beem making optics mainly for the various militaries in Europe for quite some time. In recent years they have become quite popular in North America among hunting and sport shooters.

There are mixed reviews on these scopes in the States and the general consensus used to be that there fixed power scopes were bullet proof but there was not the same feeling with there variable power scopes. Various problems plagued these scopes but the biggest of them all seemed to be the customer service. Val is the guys name in the States that is the IOR distributer and has had everything said about him you can imagine. I would recommend that if you are interested in these scopes that you visit www.snipershide.com and do a search, these guys have much more experiece with these scope than we have in Canada.

Speaking of Canada, Peter Dobson of Hirsch Precision used to have these scopes in stock and would be able to answer any questions you may have on them.

Thanks for the insight guys, I came across this site while I surfing and it seemed intresting but I had not heard anyone talk about these scopes.
Will check out the sniper site.
Cheers Chris.

I've got a couple of their variables, one on a 6.5-06 and another on a 338-06. They're great scopes, sharp, bright and tough. I also use the IOR Valdada rings on Weaver style bases. They can be had with different reticles, in the variable scope the only problem is that the reticule is in the first plane and the reticule gets larger as the magnification increases. They also don't have adjustable objectives, but that doesn't seem to be a problem as they are almost paralax free at both short and long ranges. I prefer the MP-8 Tacticle reticule, but some people find it to busy for hunting purposes. Go on to the IOR VALDADA website and have a look, for the money they are phenomenal scopes that will stand shoulder to shoulder with any of the best out there. They are HEAVY compared to other scopes and their mounts are machined steel, actually improve the balance on most rifles. bearhunter:)

I bought an IOR about two years ago because of their claim to be as good or even superior to Swarovsky,Zeiss and Kahles. After I received the scope I compared it to my 10x ZFM Svarovsky-what a mistake. The reticle looked like somebody took a spraycan to it but even worse, the turrets adjusted in the opposite order. When it was zeroed and you needed to go 4" high, I had to adjust backwards to raise the impact. When I asked the company to rectify the problem, they wouldn't.For the money they want for them I'd buy a "Western European "scope anyday.Maybe they changed their quality in recent years, who knows?-Rainer

IOR has been plagued with problems. From what I'm hearing things are improving. Distribution is the next hurdle. In Canada there are only two individuals who sell the product. The USA or NA importer is definitely different....what a character. Hopefully in a couple of years the quality and reliability will be on par with Nightforce.

The recommendation to do your research on them is very valid and highly recommended.

I got one IOR. 4x32
Great optics. Sturdy. Steel tube. The rest are allum 7###, Not 6###
Heavy but ballances well o the rifle. Positive clicks. While on the variables there are some serious competitors out there, on the fixed power they reign (sic, BR).

Certainly if you want to see more, check out sites like www.snipershide.com or www.snipersparadise.com
When you get to this level of scopes personal likes and dislikes reign supreme. IOR began changing alot of elements of thier product line to suit American tastes, and it had its hiccups along the way. As it is I found the glass better than Leupold, the heft better as well, the reticle better etc. But various models have thier own likes and dislikes for me.
You can look at it this way, for the average hunter and shooter they are more than enough scope. If you want real milspec type optics, I give them a nod over Leupold, but maybe not quite a Swarovski or Khales etc. That said, thier price isn't in that league either.
As for the MP8 reticle, I found the side bars a little thicker than I would have liked, but the rest of the reticle was crisp and sharp. Frankly I rate the MP8 as one of the best reticles out there.

Ior

I have their 9-36 x 56 with a 35 mm tube. I have it mounted on my .308 and so far have used it up to 300 yards. I also used their rail and rings. I have a nightforce benchrest 8-32 X56 for comparison. I love the IOR. Is it as good as my nightforce? absolutley. Better? in some respects yes. I cannot comment on previous issues, I bought mine from Peter Dobson and would buy another in a heartbeat.

I have had 4 different models my only concern was the eye relief on the 2.5-10 was short enough at 10 that a heavy .308 would touch my forehead if I did not make sure the scope was as far away as possible. This is generally a plus for Leupold, many if not most Euro scopes have minimal eye relief.

I have two and a friend has four of them.
Mine a 10X, and 3-18X respectively.
The bad stuff apparantly has been straightend out to the point where some of Canada's top Armed forces personall have used them and love them.
Miy 3-18X has 3.5" of eye relief, and the 10x has about the same.

I personally have been wringing out the 3-18x at the range lately and it is a fine piece of gear.
Schott optics, which are great photo engraved , lighted reticle, 35mm tube, 40mm objective, etc.
Clear to the point to where I can turn it down to 3X and hit stuff at 200 meters at night.
It is a tad heavy, and ugly, but the extra weight is not a problem and I don't care what it looks like.
Very good turrets on it as well.

The price was about half of a Mk4 and the Leupold Inlooked at was no brighter, did not have a lighted reticle and did not come with the rings!

The 10x is a great scope also, with A 50mmobjective but without parralax adjustment.
It is not a problem for the type of shooting zi do with that particulaqr scope...

Willy Schmidt is a IOR dealer in BC. I think Val set it up so he have coverage east and west.....

IF you need his number, I'll dig it up for you.

Yes, now remember, everyone needs to make a reasonable profit.
