in my search for a left handed bolt action ive come to the sako 85 hunter, which I wouldnt have ever figured on. Im planning to shoot 30-06 and would prefer a heavier gun to soak up recoil- its gonna get a lot of range time in as well as the occasional hunt.

Model 70/CZ- love em' but no lefty action
rugers/savage - dont fit me + dont like the stocks
brownings- too light
remington 700 CDL- Theyre lefty, a possibility, though I havent heard great things about them as a company/quality.

the sako 85 lefty comes in at 7 lbs for the 20" barrel rifle. sounds pretty good to me and I can get a synthetic stock one day and bring it down a bit if I get more into hunting.

have I missed any other good lefty options out there?

As a lefty I gave up buying L/H rifles 20 years ago and have never felt at a disadvantage with my R/H rifles.
That being said the Sakos are nice rifles in either hand.

I saw a fellow at the range last weekend with a .300 win mag tikka - he had a fair amount of work invested in it, but what a gorgeous, sharp shooting rig that was. I'm sorely tempted myself - when I can cough up the 2500 he had in his.

Not a bolt but check out Browning 1885 in 30-06 in the exchange forum. It may not be the most practical for all hunting situations but in my opinion it is a great rifle for the range. I am a lefty and prefer the falling block to a bolt action. Very unique and accurate.

Just my 2 cents

Hmmm ,the Newb is going to buy a high quality LH 06?
Sounds good to me but I'd choose a smaller calibre for punching paper.
260,708 and 25-06 seem like better choises (to me)
unless you have a herd of elk in your back yard.
