Valmet/Ak parts interchangeability.

Ok,now that I've sourced a few parts....I'm in a pickle....I have most parts for this build minus a selector lever....and a barrel/front block.

Here's where I need some help from you vakmet guys "cough" Bfiles "cough" ....could I make an AK barrel/front trunion work with my vakmet bolt/carrier?

A selector lever from any AK will work on a Valmet.

A barrel, though will not. AK barrels are pressed into the the receiver, Valmet barrels are threaded.

Herron arms (may be others) will make you a barrel. (You will need to provide a gas block/tube/muzzle device)

Otherwise, list (and show pictures of) what you got, we'll tell you what else you need ;)

Would it be possible for a canadian company to MAKE a clone of the Valmet hunter? I mean, why not? They would have to be an exact clone, but they should be considered non-restricted under the "variants" clause, no?

I think it has something to do with how it's named being excluded from being prohib, and that any variants would still be an AK variant and the exclsusion wouldn't apply unless it was being manufactured by a company named Valmet or something.

Couldn't be, look at the AR, it's restricted as a type, the AK too. We know, from this thread, that there are clearly differences between the AK and Valmet. No reason one couldn't be made exactly like the Valmet, call it something similar, and NR it.

If I'm reading the law right, that part won't work.

A Valmet is an AK variant. It is a variant with an exception to being Prohibited, but it is recognized in Law with AK parentage.

A variant of a Valmet is an AK variant, without a named exception.

(You could buy the rights to manufacture the designated Valmet rifles and you should be good to go. Apparently, they're not available…)

Ok...maybe Bfiles could help me out here(or anyone else with a m78)could i get some pictures of the front trunnion?im trying to find out if an all front trunnion would work and I could use a press in AK barrel,if that works,I can save a fortune over having a barrel made.

M78 and the Valmet Hunter are exceptions to the prohibition. All other Valmets are prohib.

But you can make a Hunter look pretty awesome.

M78 all hunter and the anti sniper rifle the M78/82S. That's all kids. I just went threw this with the rcmp over my milled mint m78. Come to find very little rcmp know much about our gun laws. Know your laws on these if you plan to own one or more.
