Hi I have recently become interested in the above mentioned rifles. Can someone give me some information on them (save for the fact that they are the only legal AK action rifles in Canada)

Price? (I know they are expensive)
Which one is better? M76 or M78? What are the differences?
Anyone have one? fire one?
Where can I get one? What is the best place to get one?
Is it possible to import? (does it make sense economically?)

I am interested in the 7.62x39mm round for these rifles because of standard AK

~Any and all information appreciated

Very rare. I've seen a few on the EE. You generally looking at around $5000. Yes, thats right $5000 for an ak action gun. My advice, buy an RA XCR 7.62mm, and then you can use their 10 round 7.62mm pistol magazines.

I have both, the M76 is Prohib and as you know the M78 is unrestricted. The M78 is the squad support rifle with the bipod, heavy barrel and bigger wooden stock. My M76 has the black plastic stock and is much lighter so recoil is more noticeable. The big complaint is the M76 & M78 mags are not interchangeable. They made the M78 thicker so it won't fit into the M76 mag well, don't know why they did that. The M78 in 762x39 is very hard to find and desireable as it takes standard AK mags. Mine are 308 and 223. Mags are a real problem, extremely hard to find. You'd only want a M78 if you were a collector cause theres plenty of others to satisfy you. Yes prices are in the $5k range.

Oh I thought the M76 was also unrestricted. So the M78 is the only unrestricted AK action. I would like to buy this rifle to actually fire it and it'll prob be that much harder to find one that hasn't just been sitting in a safe for its whole life.

That RA XCR in 7.62 looks fantastic with the folding stock, 10 round mags and large rail. Do you know what type of action it uses. I'd like something very reliable (IE not an AR15). Any idea of how reliable the XCR is? Also what is the approximate price of this rifle and where can I buy them? Can they be ordered directly or do they need to be imported?

Thanks guys this has been a big help. I was thinking about getting an M14 but for some reason I've kinda lost interest.

Also is the XCR non-restricted? I just read that it uses the AK action that's amazing I can't believe I didn't see this rifle earlier. Its got 10 round mag, AK action, folding stock and large rail. What more could you want?

My M 78 was a well made rifle but at what, 11 or 12 pounds it wasn't much of a bush gun. As I got older and did less high volume shooting in wilderness areas I didn't use it that much.

I was much more likely to take a Norc M 14 out and beat the stock up than that $4000 one of a kind rifle.

hmmmmm I'm not reading great reviews of this rifle online. It seems its not very reliable at all. Comments?

I just want something that's legal in Canada, reliable, in 7.62x39 or x51, preferably non-restricted, preferably light weight, pistol grip. I was in military for 5 years I want something much more reliable than M16.

Is the only choice M14 (in custom stock)? or lower cost M78 (4-5k)?

Dunno what you were doing to your rifle buds, but you have to treat a C7 pretty crappy before it becomes "unreliable"

Kel tec rfb is non restricted semi .308 win.

How would you rate reliability in order of the following:

-M14
-M78
-RFB
-XCR
-ACR (if legal in canada)
-CZ858
-AR15 (for my reference)

btw I want something really good, I'm not concerned with the price, compare as if they were all the same price

I will first say the M78 is an excellent platform like the Swiss Rifles but they are cost prohibitive.

I could not even think about spending $5k on a AK platform with the CZ or CSA carbines availabile. Guys are having a ball with them and the short barrelled micro carbines that arrived have been superb.

Save your cash and go buy three or four in different calibres and variations. I guarantee you, you'll have a lot of fun and they're very affordable to feed/maintain with loads of great accessories.
