Does anyone know where to locate a manual or copy of one for a Valmet M78 rifle, also looking for a dust cover scope mount for a M78, will a AK dust cover such as the one at Marstar etc work for this rifle? and if so is this the best way to mount a scope, I do not want to modify or damage this rifle when attaching a scope to it.

thanks in advance.

Manuals are very tough to find. Basically if your rifle did not come with a manual you will never get one. Let me know how the dust cover mount works if you get it as I would like to scope my M78 308.

don't bother with the dust cover, all the aftermarket ones don't fit very well. the factory ones are the best but prices vary from $75 all the way up to $250. all depend on the time of day and wether on not the seller has taxes due.

just have fun with the iron sights. the rifles are more accurate than their own sights, but if you use a scope you'll see they don't shoot that straight. if you are going to do some serious hunting, get another type of rifle.

Thanks for the info, if I cannot locate a dustcover scopemount, what do you think I should reasonably expect using iron sights given that this a military style rifle in .308 with a 24" barrel?

I have not taken it to the range yet.

Using IVI 308 in my 308 M78 I get about 2" or so at 100 meters using the irons off a rest (5 shot grouping). Using the bipod opens up the groups slightly to 3" or so. With a better shooter than myself and using good accurate match type ammo and a scope I could see getting about an inch or so at 100 meters. Its no sniper rifle but it is an RPK that I can take into the field legally. Galil 308 mags will fit it (kinda tight though), and the follower holds the bolt open after the last shot.

Valmet M78

Valmet M78 parts can still be obtained as I had one in 30-06 and ordered a
spare mag from Stoeger in Whitby Ont. through Williams Arms. The parts took
about a mounth and came out of Finland.---Thanks--DIESELDOG!!! (BigBucks)

M78 in 30-06?
First one i have heard of.
I had one of each in 223, and 308, and was aware of 7.62x39, but had not heard of 30-06 Valmet M78 until now.

About that Manual. Somewhere on the net, I found a .pdf version. I'll try to find a link to post, or see if I still have the file on my harddrive to upload somewhere.

There is a guy here on the webiste who has a Hunter in 30-06 converted to use BAR 20/5 mags and has a homemade RPK stock and pistol grip. Looks very slick!

Valmet

I have been considering purchasing a Hunter but I would like it in 243. I know they made them in 243, does anyone know of one ???????????????

Any help here would be good.... <maybe if I PM all CGN members I could find one>

It belonged to me but I sold it to a range buddy last year. It was not the rifle converted to take BAR 20/5 mags but rather mags converted (TIG welding involved) to fit the receiver.
