Anyone got experience with the Valmet M78 and using the wrong mags with it????????

The one in the EE forum, has the wrong mags. It has Valmet M76/Hunter Mags.

My understanding is that they are loose and dont fit right? Does this create a feeding problem? Do they rattle arround in the mag well? If so how bad? as that cant be good for the GUN.......

Any info? I know that there is limited experience in the group on this but any feedback would be appreciated........

Proper M78 mags are not overly available....

Valmet 78 mags

The mags listed with the rifle for sale are Valmet 76, or Hunter 308 mags. They don't have the reinforcement at the top. I'm not sure that they will feed the same, but I do know there will be a little gap between the mag and the receiver.

One of the mags you show in your post, the second pic, is for a stamped Valmet 78, and will not fit a milled Valmet 78 receiver. I learned the hardway, when I bough two of them for my milled Valmets. Anyone have a stamped receiver Valmet 78 in 308?

This same question came up a few months ago.

Same answer and same photo.
The Hunter mags are indeed a little thinner. The idea, as I was told, is that you CAN use a Hunter mag in the M78, but you cannot use the 20 round M78 mag in the Hunter. The Hunter mag does fit, but it rattles around a bit. NO PROBLEMS with feeding though.

The last picture in the first post, the 30 round mag, I believe is an aftermarket job. The welded seam running across the body looks familiar. If it is the one I think it is, it WILL hold 30, but it will NOT allow the rounds to depress enough to attach to the gun. So, in fact, it is a 29 round mag.
