Valmet shotguns

Hi all, I have a buddy who just came into a couple estate guns,one of which is a Valmet o/u 12g shotgun,now I don't have the model or any other specs on it yet,all he said is that it looks like a "fancy" gun.

From some of the searches I have done I have found out that they are no longer made and I think were bought out by Tikka. One friend told me to stay far away from it...I figured if the price is right I may pick it up for a little upland hunting this fall, any thoughts on this gun?

I've owned several Valmet/Tikkas, the latest being 412S that my son now owns.
They are a well made , straight shooting shotgun.

Valmet O/U Shotguns

They are a well made shotgun. Come in various grades and models. Savage imported them with the Savage label on them. Some have vent ribs, and there was also a Trap model.

Probably $300-$400 a fair price, depending upon condition. I sold one last year at a gun show for $400, but it was about 98% condition.

They are good quality shotguns they were distributed by Tikka / Stoger they are a little chunky for my personal liking Definetly a well made gun if you can buy it for a reasoable price even better,

My uncle has one of these bought it probably 25 years ago and also got o/u 20 gauge and 12 gauge 30/06 o/u barrrels used alot and no real problems 12g-30/06 has put down alot of deer, coyotes, and even one moose I believe.
 
i have a tikka 412s 12ga o/u very well built gun the previous owner had problems with firing pins breaking i think it was because he used to dry fire it i always use snap caps have not had a prob with pins breaking yet.
 
This was the first good shotgun that I owned and it did well by me but I did have to repair a crack behind the tang. Very easy fix and no problems after that.
 
Just the thread I was looking for. I am looking for feedback also. I found a Valmet 12g o/u today at the local gunshop but don't have a model number so am unsure of the $600 asking price without a model to research on. Good condition though. Any ideas what one is really worth??

I own a 412S fantastic gun well made reliable, maybe a little on the heavy side, I would buy another in a heartbeat! BTW if anyone has any barrells for one PM me!!

I paid 600 for mine, fair price when you compare to russian o/u which IMO are not even in the same class.
 
I had several Valmet 212s, 220s, 312s and combo 12 ga/.308. They were very well made, handled well and totally reliable. As noted previously, Valmet badged some as Savage. The Valmet firearms group was sold to Tikka which in turn was purchased by Beretta in the early 1990s. By this time, the 412 series was in production and this production was switched to Italy. All 512 models were made in Italy as I recollect. Somewhere in my old files are some Valmet brochures from the 1980s.
