Like the title says.

What's the price and availability. Is it restricted or non-restricted?

Am I moron for asking?

Jeff

I thought they were prohibited as an AK variant but was corrected recently, apparently they are exempt from the ban and are quite expensive.

So not to hijack your thread... since we are on the subject... Will AK furniture fit on a valmet?

the valmet HUNTER and the valmet m78 are the only ones that are NOT prohibited the m76 is prohib

yes you can "fit" ak parts to it

they can be hard to come by and very expensive

Where else? The Valmet store on Hurontario Rd., just next to the HK discount outlet.

I was in the Colt factory outlet yesterday. Man their sales people are pushy.;)

I found one (Valmet) on the EE. OWCH! I'll stick with the M14

I was told 3000-3500$ by someone
As for finding one, i have no clue where to look.

Yeah, that sounds about right. $3,000 to $3,500 sounds about right for very good to excellent condition. I found one in the States and contacted Questar to do the import paperwork. Mark told me that the ATF would probably not approve an export permit as other export permits for the Valmet Hunter and M78 had been denied. Whether one could buy one at a gun show and import themselves is.........I guess still in violation of US export laws. No wonder they're so expensive here.

They do come up from time to time on the EE.

Valmet

Recently, I have purchased 3 Valmets in the States and the first 2 (Hunters) came in no problem. My last one M78 is caught up in US State Dept paperwork. Right now with the US State Dept the way it is I would not be purchasing any more Valmets from the US. Unless you dont mind risking the cash. Canada is not the problem it is the US.

If you found one in Europe and they would ship it here then I would be willing to give it a try but exporting Valmet rifles from the USA might be a thing of the past now.

Crap! :(

I just bought an M78 in the US and got my importation permit. Guess I'll know soon enough if the US will issue an export license for it.

Someone here had a .308 M78 for sale at $3500
I PMed him to see if he was getting any interest at that price, more out of curiousity, as I had one in .223. He had already sold it, then offered to buy mine. He asked what price, I replied that he had just set the new standard, we did the deal.
Two confirmed sales, at $3500

Maybe we should try to figure out which native tribes received the alleged truckloads of these things, y'know, a Valmet for an SKS and a case of fire water ? :D

MAN you drive a hard bargain ... Tell you what, a shiny new SKS (chrome/nickel plated and polished to a miror finish no less), a case a fire water, and cases of beer stacked as high as the Valmet, but it's my last offer !

Who started that goofy rumour? Not the first time I have heard it.
