The hunter in 308 is a great rifle! I had one for a few years :D sold it in a weak moment. The fit and finish was excellent, spare magazines were way over price (I know, I sold a few 9rds to some american...), accuracy was ok.

I've seen them in 30-06 and .243...

You might be lucky to find one of those M78

There are 5 purebred M78 rifles in 308 in Canada and a couple more in 7.62x39mm and I have seen one in .223... Alan Lever did not import that many M78 rifles, I believe that more of the hunters came into the country. I have a purebred M78 in 308 with 3 20/5 mags and no matter how broke I seem to get that is the one firearm I cannot even think about putting up for sale.

i think the numbers will be higher. i know of 3 308 and two 223 M78's just here in the lowermainland. i cannot believe thats all there are in theis size of a country,
