Valmets

Well, not really. The valmet plant produced full auto rifles and various other military things.

The I understood that there were two semi-only valmets that were explicitly non-restricted. A .223 and a .308 rifle.

There have been some awesome Galil conversions done with those.

There are some more rare calibers in the non-res rifle range, like the .243 jdman pointed out and the 30-06. Also one can't forget the 7.62x39.

You can't realistically convert a Valmet hunter to an AK clone. Just look at the receivers alone, they're completely different in shape.

Plus, what's the attraction in making a $1000 rifle look like a $400 rifle?

I just sold a guy a complete m71 parts kit for converting a .223 hunter into an m71 clone, although a spacer will need to be built for the rear stock to allow it to mount to the milled/slanted rear of the hunter receiver.

The m78's look the best:

I always wondered if the accuracy of these rifles was affected by having the bipods mounted directly to barrel?

beauty is in the eye of the beholder. They are the only Ak variants we can have as Canadians, they are much better quality than most AK clones, plus they are rare to begin with as far as AK variants go. DISCLAIMER/SHILL ALERT I collect them and am selling some so take my opinion for what its worth.

Fvck gutinater, i may have to get a 7.62x39 m78 now too.

Maybe you guys need to get Norinco to start making Valmets. Yea I know the 5-OH will have kittens and they'll be prohib...

I've actually been wondering about this as well. Even if it was a Canadian manufacturer that ran a batch of "Valmet 78 pattern manufactured by ### company" would that not satisfy the writ of the FRT to make them legal? As a hobby machinist with an interest in firearms manufacture I'd love to try a reverse engineer if I can get my hands on an original M78. It would be a huge project, but worth it imho.

Won't work. There is a thread that discussed "chinese" made clones at length. Prohib. Valmet may not exist, but the rights are still owned by an existing company that won't be making new ones.

Precisely how many AKs have you fired to conclude their accuracy is "barn door"? They may not be sniper rifles but they're not inaccurate as you suggest.

Zero. Because I can't legally ####ing own one. But I can read, and lower end AKs arent renowned for their accuracy. So what is it for a valmet? 4-6moa? 2-4? 1-2?

I've read that VEPR approach 1moa. Would be nice if the valmet is similar.
