I suppose, since Franchi-15, Saiga-12 and other magazine-fed tactical shotguns are illegal in Canada, Valtro PM-5 is the only game in town.

Does anybody own one here in this forum? How do they perform? Is it reliable out in the woods?
I'm interested in their 20", but having no knowledge about this shotgun makes me a little skeptical, probably due to it being so different from other shotgun. Is there any major problem associated with using detachable magazine, instead of tubular ones?
My biggest concern is, is Wolverine still selling these?

i don't own one, but was playing /w one at my gun shop, they look quite cool, and for some if the guys its MUST have, in talking to an owner its quite reliable, but this is for range use, he hasn't taken it /w him into the woods as far as i know.....

unless you really HAVE to have one, i think you're better off /w one of the Fabarm (non detach mag) ones, from what i understand these are hard to get a hold of, as the gun shop hasn't been able to bring in a new one, just the one of the few that they've previously sold and is now back on consignment.... with that thought, you may have a hard time finding mags as well... the one that i know was on consignment was because the owner traded it back in for a Fabarm...
 
i hate bringing up old topics but figure its better than starting a new one that is pretty much the same.

where, other than private deals, could someone buy a valtro shotgun in Canada?
 
I have known several individuals who have owned Valtro shotguns, and have had the opportunities to use them many times. None of them have had good experiences with them, and I had issues when using them. They were always seeming to jam up. I think the magazine is the weak link in the system. Based on my experiences with them I would suggest going with a traditional tube fed shotgun.
 
I had one. Great shotgun with a smooth action and decent sights. The breech locks back after the last shell is ejected so there's no rack / click if you loose count ;) . The large mag makes extended field carry a bit awkward, but it keeps 8oz of lead centralized on the gun. I didn't like the ported barrel. Much too loud and the hot gases are expelled right above the forend. Once had a noob hurt her thumb because it was too close to the ports :redface: . The thread-on brakes of Fabarm shotguns are a much better idea IMHO.
 
theyre great as long as you're positive in cycling the action and don't squeeze the trigger until the bolt in in battery (unlike remingtons which let you get away with it by releasing the trigger and re-pressing), if you squeeze the trigger before the gun is in battery the hammer will fall and drive the bolt in battery, but then you have to cycle the action & eject an unfired shell. a PITA & time loser in gun games.
 
I found a couple of used and NIB at Ellwoodepps (Orillia, Ont) when I was looking for a 14"bbl SG.
Fit/finish looked nice and felt good in my hands. Mags were about $85/each.
In the end I bought a Fabarm Comp 14" and my buddy bought the Valtro. He seems to like it but sometimes has problems
jamming the mag when inserting it.
