Wow, this was the first rifle I ever bought, exact model and calibre. I think I paid $175 for it back then. Lost the front hood on mine also. :D

I know they are a decent enough rifle with some quality features.
That pistol grip horseshoe cap just turns me green.
One day I will own one of them and take my air board sander to all
that bling and make it looky right.
Yard the scope and save it for a 22 rimfire.
They say it doesn't add value to the offering, but at gun shows they
seem to fetch an orange one.

A friend of mine has a Parker Hale like yours in 30.06. We agree on the $450.00 figure.

Methinks ones market would problably be a sentamental buyer and or a collector because $360 (before taxes) gets you a brand new Savage axis at WSS...just saying.

I would say $450 with scope. Apart from the pseudo Weatherby styling, a much higher quality rifle than a new Savage Axis. Parker hale rifles are generally undervalued as used rifles in my opinion.

I remember those selling for about $165 . . . is it really over 40 years!!??

If I was looking for a .270, I wouldn't turn my nose up at one of those. At the time I didn't mind that stock design, which seemed slightly less garish than the Weatherby, but only slightly. I suppose today I'd order a McMillan for it.

are parker and hale a good rifle?
ive seen them mentioned before but i have yet to handle

The 98 Mauser actions are strong and reliable, the barrels are straight and true, the stock is comfortable if slightly dated, and the chamberings encountered are most often for proven game cartridges, standard or magnum. So yes, the PH is, IMHO, a good rifle.
