Hi,

what is the approximate value for a wwii german g43 (very late AC45), all matching (mag not matching), ex-VOPO with a ZF4 scope and mount? Good working condition, bore good?

Thanks,

So, to quote another internet article, "Gentlemen, start your bookcases!"

The book Hitler's Garand has this rifle's description on page 348 as a Karabiner 43. About 47000 examples were produced by Walther in 1945. This one is very late in the range, serial number 7668d cited as the highest number reported. This one's number 4897d would put it in the last 3000 examples produced, presuming a sequence of the letter suffix as a, b, c, d. Intact thunder chickens and crooked crosses, with the serialized parts and stock are encouraging. Ignoring the magazine, I'd think this rifle was either never issued and captured intact, or was issued and the PBI Volksgrenadier didn't have much of a chance to shoot or break it. It was therefore a next to new rifle when it was eventually issued to the VOPO. Those scopes are desirable all by themselves, but I don't know enough about them to comment.

If the original poster does a few serious Goofle searches for G43s and K43, he'll find there haven't been many on the market lately. What comes up is a seller's market. So, listen to what the rifle says about itself and price accordingly. In my opinion, this one is worth the money.

Thanks for the info about Mag!

Your rifle is an East German postwar rework indicated by sunburst on receiver, just like the rifle posted
In this thread on a gun dealers site. Butt plate was renumbered post war
and was never numbered in war time.

Nice rifle

Mount looks like a Sarco reproduction and scope looks original.

Thanks again. Was the Triggerguard numbered in wartime or is it post war too?

It would be helpful if you could post photos as the devil is always in the details with collectible WWII rifles. That said, I can tell you that I sold a lightly used original ac44 G43 (i.e. matching numbers and not post war rebuilt) for $5250 in 2018. If your rifle is VoPo marked, I’d say it’s worth somewhere in the $3500-$4000 range.

With respect to scopes and mounts, these can be pricey. It’s important to look carefully at the WaAs on the mounts. If you see WaA 359 that’s Walther and the scope / mount is probably worth $2k. If you see WaA 214 that’s Lubecker which is rarer and thus marginally more expensive (perhaps $2500). There’s also accessories to consider. Scope covers are a few hundred bucks, coloured lenses are maybe $50-100 etc...

Basically a scoped G/K43 is worth the sum of its parts unless the mount is wartime numbered to the rifle. In the case of the latter, that would make it a verifiable sniper which would put it into another category (i.e. $15k+). Usually we don’t encounter those though, so don’t get your hopes up.
