This has been in the family a long time and after a few years at the cabin looking to sell. Could have some value ?? so I am canvassing for expertise and opinions on marketability and value. 28 inch barrel full choke with some surface issues as shown in pics. Shoots well. 16 gauge 2 3/4 chamber Model 12 with s/n putting it made in 1940. One unsourced article said that while there were 15 variations of the model 12 only 4 types were made in 16 gauge and all in 1940. This one is a breakdown model that came originally in a canvas carry bag with two sleeves for the sections. Generally I know that re finishing goes against value but I would consider that as well. Sorry for the picture scramble.

I would say it's worth around $300. Judging by the shape of the ejection port, it is a 2 3/4" chamber. It is just a plain field model, no rib, plain wood etc. The one thing it has going for it is it appears to not have been modified.

And you are being kind at $300. I am not sure what makes the OP think this one is rare.???? I have a few model 12's and the only one I would class as rare in a field model would be my 28ga.

Winchester made a lot of 16 gauge model 12's not as many as 12 gauge by a long way but 16 production was signifigant. I purchased one last year 1936 manufacture, in better condition. Mine has a 26 inch modified choke barrel with solid rib, a more rare gun. I paid $700 for mine. I think yours would be valued at $300-$375. My 2 cents.
