Value of 1884 spfl trapdoor

I just got a Springfield 1884 trapdoor in good condition on an impulse buy and now I'm trying to find the value of it to keep my sanity.

I realize I'm doing things a bit backwards, but I still need to know.

PS. with a guestimated manufacturing date of 1888/1889 based on SN 476###.

You can also check John Denner's website (try Google). Everything depends on condition. I've seen prices anywhere between $500 to $1200

Even if you paid a little too much do not despair it just means you'll need to own it/enjoy it a little longer to get all your money back. (in todays financial market that applies to everything LOL so do't feel buyers regret. takes the joy out of it)

I just paid $650 for one in good or a little better condition, VG bore. Mine has cut down to carbine wood which would drop value a bit.
They sure have character though and it even shoots quite well. They are entirely useable too as long as you keep your loads reasonable. I love shooting the originals.

I just paid $600US for a nice rifle out of the States, and a few years ago, I paid $600, here on CGN's, for a piece of crap, cut down ,cadet rifle from a low life in BC a few years ago... but that's a long story....

Like the others have said, all depends on condition, and markings. I'd say between $500 and $1500....

Thanks for your replys, and heres the photos as requested. (I payed $700. I think thats about right with quality. Although I'm not one to really know how to judge condition. My scale is Bad, Okay and Good. I rate this as Okay). I can tell you the metal looks in good condition...especially the rifling.

Btw, you can see the wood has a bit of a burn mark at the but on the Left Side.

That one looks very good, I think you probably did quite well at $700, especially if it proves to be a good shooter.

I forget,, I think it was around 600 or 700, and it looked to be in pretty good shape.

There seems to be more good trapdoors around in the last year or so that there was for a long time. Anyone know why, did someone release a load of them or something?

You paid a fair price for the trapdoor.
It looks to be in very good condition.
The only imporvement that would be suuggested is to use Liquid Gold furniture cleaner and an ultra fine scoth brite pad...NO STEEL WOOL...it is too aggressive. All you want to do is clean the grim and impregnated oils out of the wood without reducing the dimensions of the wood.
If there are inspector marks visible be extra, extra careful around them so as not to remove them.
