Hi All,

My Father recently passed away, and left behind a brand new Tikka M65, 30-06 rifle. This rifle was purchased new in 1978, here in Ontario, and has never been fired. One gun dealer has examined this rifle, and he described it as "like new". However, he could not tell me it's value as he could not find it in any references he had. I have an idea of the approximate value, but would appreciate others' opinions. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have taken several pictures of the rifle, they can be viewed by clicking on the thumbnails below. (Note, To get a better idea of the condition of the rifle, after clicking on the last two thumbnails, please click again on the pictures to view them in high resolution)

Regards,

Phil

I have the short action (.243 Win) of the same rifle. I paid $650 for mine NIB about three years ago. I would say your rifle would be about the same price. The plus side is they not making any more of them.

That would be in the ball park for sure. Some fellas would probably go $725. Any more and guys will hit you with the old "but I can buy a brand new one for that...."

Condition is everything. Nice rifle. If you were to advertise it, you would get 650-725 depending on how "mint" it is. Your pics are very well done.

This is a good quality gun but unfortunately what buyers will pay for them does not reflect it. I have owned a number of Tikkas over the years and still own a M65 Deluxe in 7mm Mag and a M55 Deluxe in 308 (not to mention T3s and M595s). I bought a couple of years ago a NIB M65 Deluxe in 300 WM for $800 but after owning it for a while, I realized that this was somewhat overpriced, when comparing what they were selling for.

The figure quoted by StoneHorse is definitely in the right range. Furthermore, I believe that what you have is the standard model and not the Deluxe one. The Deluxe model has the contrasting forend tip, and pistol grip cap.

I just bought my M65 Deluxe in 7mm Mag in excellent conditon for $675.
And, as mentioned before, the M55 & M65 have been out of production for many years.

Phil should have got the money order today, and hopefully the rifle will ship tomorrow. Looking forward to receiving the "new" old rifle. :) Hope to bloody it on both deer and moose this fall.

Yes, the Tikka was sold to Preacher. While it was my Dad's gun, no one in our family hunts or even has a PAL. So, I'm glad to see it in the hands of someone who can appreciate it, and in return my Mother, who is on a limited income, gets the money from the sale.

The best Tikka ever made, and in that shape it would have been a no brainer to get $800 on the exchange forum and I would have asked $850 + shipping (I've sold a few of 'em for $750-$800 in much worse condition, in less than a few hours after posting them, and interest was VERY strong!).

Hopefully you go close to that for it!

Shhhhhh! I paid the asking price, and it was fair both ways. His mother got exactly what she asked, and I got a good rifle at a good price. All are happy.

And no one posted that they were interested in buying it after I did. The post died until Phil shot me the pm several days later. A gain on both sides of the equation.

Fair enough, but we both know it was worth a solid $800 in that condition, and I'm betting you paid much less than that from your reply.

Difference being that she didn't know what it was worth!

Oh well, you're the one that has to sleep on it at night.

Fleecing widows has never been my gig...enjoy your rifle!

This was originally posted on May 7th. It has been around for over a month. No one else was interested in the rifle until it was sold. Go figure! I informed Phil of my interest on May 13th. He made an informed decision as to the price and told me what it was plus shipping and insurance, based on posts up to that time. If he had asked $800, I wouldn't have bought the rifle. It may be worth that much to you -- it isn't to me. He was within $25 of what I figured the rifle was worth - to me - so I bought it.

The last "new" rifle without a box that I bought was a model 70 Win left hand in 30-06 for my daughter. I bought it from a banker who is an avid shooter. It came with two factory wood stocks and a set of Talley one piece mounts - no box - no papers - price was about the same as the Tikka.

You could have bought the thing a month ago. You didn't.

Hello All,

My Father passed away in late March after a lengthy illness. He had been very ill for a number of years. After my Father’s death, being on a limited income, my Mother decided to sell the Tikka rifle he left behind, as she could use the money. We took the rifle to a gun dealer to try and find out it’s value, to no avail. So, next stop was the library, a book there had the gun listed, but the book was 20 years old! Then I had the idea to search the internet for a gun website/forum. I found this site, took some pictures of my Father’s gun, and started a thread, asking if any of you knew what the gun would be worth. From the 3 replies I received, it seemed to be worth around $650. We were surprised (ignorant) when Preacher posted that he was interested in buying the rifle, so we jumped at the offer. My Mother preferred to sell the rifle ASAP, so when Preacher asked what she wanted for it, not really knowing what it was worth, she told me a price, which I emailed to him. Let’s just say the riffle sold for under $600 +shipping. At the time I was surprised that he did not try and negotiate a better price, perhaps he knew how good a deal he was getting. Having said that, he did pay what my Mother asked, and she got me to ship the rifle as soon as payment arrived. Had my Mother known it was worth $800 she would have asked that, as my initial intention was to try and sell it on the Equipment Exchange Forum for her. In any case, Dad’s rifle is sold, it’s found a new home.

Thanks to all who have responded to this thread.

Phil
