I bought a browning A5 at auction for $375, never really saw the gun before I bid but it was supposed to be a Belgium A5, but it has a poly choke and no gold trigger. What is this gun worth? It's a 2 3/4 inch. Serial number is in the 335000 range. It's decent shape, no rust but a couple marks on the rear stock. Shot it and it didn't eject a trap load but worked fine on pheasant loads.

The friction rings might be set up for shooting heavy loads. If so, it may not function properly using light loads. Just a matter of removing the forearm and checking the rings.

The Belgium models are the more desired of the Auto 5s. From the pictures, it looks to be in good shape. Although the Poly choke lowers the value, it make the shotgun more useable as a everyday hunter. I am sure that for under $400, you weren't expecting a collectable but having said that, you have to ask yourself where are you going to find a reliable semi auto shotgun that will feed everything from #7 to slugs and holds 5 rounds for that price!?! You didn't do too bad.

BTW, don't knock the Poly choke until you try it. Many hunters prefer that over the removable ones and try to buy a new Poly choke in Canada today... you can't. Enjoy the gun my friend.

I have a 53 model that has no engraving on the receive, just a bust of J. Browning. I read somewhere that guns without engraving were for the European market. Don't know if there is any fact to that.

Recent auction sales show a gun exactly the same as yours went for market value of $375.

Har har.

Plus taxes, plus buyer's premium, plus most auction houses charge ridiculous shipping *and* packing fees if the gun was mailed.

Nice looking gun; if it's what you wanted it will serve you well. And you won't have to hunt around for a barrel to shoot steel, or different clay games, so don't knock the Poly-Choke. But the price is a bit higher than retail (before fees), which isn't surprising for an auction.

Thanks guys, just was different than the normal belguim guns I have seen. Will have fun with it.

Of course everyone who says you paid to much for it want it more than you do ;)
They just missed out on the auction house excitement you had.
Buy it, shoot it and have fun with it.
You may have paid a 20 spot more for it, but if it fits you and you like the ole kerchunk of the action every time you bust a cap then you are getting your monies worth.
Those friction rings can be a pia, but there are a few you tube vids that make short work of that confusion.
Search Arts Gun Shop on the tube and he shows a quick easy reminder on how the rings should be placed.
Enjoy the ole gal she is a work horse.
