value of a Colt SAA 2nd Gen

A friend of mine has a VG-Ex condition 2nd Generation Colt SAA that he wants to sell to me. I'm not much of a single action guy so have very little idea of what is a fair price. It's in 45 LC with a 7-7 1/2 inch barrel (I forget exactly which). Not much on the EE to go on (one 3rd Gen gun for $1600 but that's it). Any help would be appreciated.

Need more info, really. What year?

Pricing 2nd gens in Canada is tricky, the collector market isn't what it is in the US. $2000+ in the US would be highly probable... In Canada, it's hard to say. The only +$3000 guns I've seen go are refinished pre-1898s with antique status. The only way you'd get more than $1500 for the same gun in the US, would be if a Canadian was bidding. The opposite is true of 2nd gens in Canada...
