Hi Everyone,

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this so apologies if I got it wrong. I am looking to sell my Luger (reluctantly) and was wondering about its value. I do not have any idea about the price of pistols in Canada anymore, much less lugers which I believe are somewhat unusual. Could someone advise me please?

Many Thanks,
David

There are many thousands of Lugers in Canada. You can peruse the completed auctions at Icollector.com to see what they sell for.

As with any collectible firearm, originality, condition, and matching numbers are important factors.

Over one million Lugers were made since the Swiss adopted Georg Luger's reformat of Hugo Borchardt's semi-auto pistol in 7.63.
Unfortunately your pics show no details & your post offers little info to at least get to who made it, when it was made, & who it was made for. Lugers, like P38's had multiple contracts, finishes, calibers, barrel lengths & other distinguishing features that either made them common or rare, ultra rare, or one of a kind pistols.
I suggest you post better pics, & offer informative details on all the markings that are present on your piece.

Go to switzer auctions ontario and look at past sales. they also have a sale coming tomorrow 30 June with 7 lugers in it

Hi Everyone,

it was made in 1942, has two magazines and a holster, non matching numbers, black grips, restricted length barrel rather than prohibited (basically a good shooter not exactly a collector item)

Off hand, not considering the actual market, a matching re-barreled Luger BYF-42 used to sell + or - $1800.00.
Now, you mentioned black grips....plastic or bakelite ? if bakelite (you can perform the test of a heated nail ....if it does not mark the UNDERSIDE of the grip, it is bakelite), you have a so called "Black Widow", a term to bull#### any buyer since it has been invented by a dealer after the war.
It won't add to the price of the pistol unless the buyer is seduced by the name "Black Widow".
But I believe your grips are plastic ( smooth edging all around the panels).
And how about the mags ? any markings ?
Holster ? repro or original ? any markings ?

on the auctions , those would be 6-800 if 12-6 , restricted ( after market barrel) 1000-1200 There was a artillery model that sold for about 2k, but I never looked at the condition
Been a few yrs since I dealt any Lugers, so that is just average auction prices, most are 12-6 so market is poor unless real nice matching examples.

I just bought a 1918 in nice condition, non matching magazine for 1700. This was just before the "handgun freeze" and any possible inflated prices. Restricted obviously. No extras, just the gun and one magazine. Wood grip panels.

WWII versions seem to go for a bit more than pre WWII versions. I'd put your value at around $1700 being non numbers matching and with the holster.

1942 manufacturer means Mauser made & the last production before production ceased. Non-matching numbers means a whole variety of possibilities, the two mags probably don’t match the Luger’s serial number. Perhaps it was an after-war put-together? Possible.
With few exceptions, notably the WW1 artillery Luger, some limited commercial examples, most Lugers were 9mm with a 4” barrel. If your Luger, here in Liberal Socialist Utopia, it was a 12(6) unconstitutional prohib class switched over to restricted class with the installation of a >105mm barrel it still means nothing.
However, when the STUPID Liberals & commie-lovin’ NDP pass C21, all handguns will become prohibited regardless of class.
