Buddy has a marlin 45-70 guide gun. Wood, blued and ported barrel. Its older and in fair cond. Anybody know the value of these guns. Serial number is 02032###

I have that. The ported made I believe late 80's to early 90's. A JM, from when that meant something. Mine for 600, unfortunately it was out of sync, jammed and became a single shot shooting a black bear.

Rusty Woods.... gunsmith...shop. Did a action and trigger job. I topped it off with a loop with hog plex reticle. Sort of close to a German 4A.

Scope and work puts me over a grand. Now I moved were there are no bears and only little deer.

The newest REPs are just as good as the JMs.
In fact I think the machining of the REPs is better.

Having said that a REP in that condition would fetch $450 - $500 while a JM would fetch $600 or more.

Where would this JM stamp be located, is it actually stamped JM somewhere?

If it’s an “02’” Serial, it’s a JM.

Stamp should be on the left side of the barrel by the receiver. The 1895’s from that era had Microgroove rifling, which some people would shy away from.

No pics, vague description, $500

But, the occasional wolf does swim on by though....
sorry, no idea what the GG is worth or valued at by some...

I'd pay more for any rifle that is twenty years old, 'cause they just don't make 'em like they used to.

I don't know that's true in this case. Marlin had some real quality problem before being taken over by Remington. The current crop of guns gain far better feedback than the old ones. Worth noting, going back 20 years, I don't know if the same quality issues existed.
