Value Of A Ruger M77

So my dad has a Ruger M77 .22-250 varmint with a (early 90s?) Redfield 4-12x. It has some surface rust on the barrel, that should be easily removable. He has a guy that is interested in buying it, and wants to give him a fair price, what do you guys think would be reasonable?

You've stated that the barrel has surface rust on it, how is the bore? Stock is in what kind of shape? These things dictate quite a bit on value.
If in good shape, ask $550.

Stock is in very good shape, bore is clean.

got burnt many yrs ago on such a gun, she was burnt out! Beware!

Try shooting it for accuracy. Legend has it that early Rugers had farmed out their barrels and quality was questionable.
