I recently was asked if I were interested in a win. 88 in a 243 cal. The gentleman is moving into an appartment, and is wanting to sell a few of his hunting rifles. I don't really need another rifle, but I thought maybe a 243 in an 88 might be a good investment. He did hint at wanting $750 for it, or a reasonable offer. How fair is he with the $750??
Your input would be greatly appreciated.

It had better have good glass on it for that price. I'm thinking somewhere between 5-600 scoped and in good condition.

Gary will know for sure, but I'd say that price is a wee little bit on the high side, but certainly not uncommon for asking it. 308's go for less. I would expect to have to pay at least $600. min for a minty 243. That's life, it's the way it is. Either you want it or you don't. Somebody will buy it! Guess what you would have to pay for a 358!

Yep, Gary will be your man. Win. 88 in .243 although not rare, are few and far between. And don't last long when put of the block. I would say 750 is the very upper end of the price range. Like everything else for sale it is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

All depends on the year the pre 64's go for a few hundered more. Sellers at the gun show were wanting almost 8-900 bucks for some pre-64 models. Because they have "better" iron in them they told me. What a load of b.s. but thats how it is. My post 64 .308 is a tack driver!

Thanks for all the replys.
The gun is not a pre 64 model, bluing about 85%, wood has no cracks and is about 80%, one clip, no front hood, no scope, no recoil pad, just the rifle with basket weave design.

I have a pre 64 88 in 243. I never did like that gun and could never understand the reason for their attraction, but I traded a fellow a jam-o-matic 742 for it years ago.

The only reason I'm keeping it is in the hopes some day it'll be worth a fortune to someone. I'm still waiting for that day. :)

I have seen a Pre-64 with cut checkering go for, and sell, at close to $800 for near mint.
Is $750 unrealistic for a Post in good condition? Someone might buy it for that. Don't be that guy.

why not just couff up $1700. or so and buy a super superior Sako Finnwolf? D*** is full of pure raw moose bull-pooh if he pipes up here and says a Finnwolf is just a glorified Win 88, it just ain't so!
