Value of BNIB Winchester 100

Just saw 3 go through the auctions, they sold for 350 -550 used but in excellent condition, a friend just bought one in .284 Winchester and paid 850 for it. The .243 and .284 go for way more than the .308 model. Looks like they made way more .308 models than the other 2. In case you buy it, Winchester had a recall on those rifles, firing pin would stick forward and cause the rifle to go into full auto. Winchester has a toll free number and will send you the parts to change to stop this from happening. This recall is from 20 - 30 years ago, but they will still send you the parts for it. You just have to give them the serial number and they will check to see if they have already sent out the upgrade parts for it

I don't think captonion is too far off the mark. I bought a Mod.100 that had only seen 1 box of shells and I paid $600. for what was essentially a new rifle. Another factor will be which variant, stock wise. Is it the earlier checkered beefy stock or the later slimmer oak leaf motif and basket weave checkering? Pics would help a lot. I love mine, but it's VERY finicky about ammunition. I threw a lot of lead downrange trying to find a load that gave me acceptable groups.

Be wary of something advertised as "Brand new, in box", seeing as it's possibly mid-70's vintage or older. It could be in very good to excellent condition but hard to determine if it is in fact as advertised. Box, pamphlet, warranty card, hang tags, receipt etc will add to the provenance.

“PRODUCT SAFETY WARNING AND REPLACEMENT NOTICE. Attention owners of Winchester model 100 rifles and carbines please read this notice. In July of 1990 the following product safety warning was issued by Winchester. It has come to our attention that the firing pin in the Winchester Model 100 Rifle or Carbine may break due to use and metal fatigue and become lodged in the breech bolt face. If this occurs, the firearm may fire before the action is locked causing severe damage to the firearm and possibly injury or death to the shooter and bystander.
WARNING DO NOT SHOOT YOUR WINCHESTER MODEL 100 RIFLE OR CARBINE. Repair and replacement. A new firing pin has been designed to replace the firing pin originally made for the Winchester Model 100 Rifle and Carbine. The new firing pins will be available in April 1991. If you own a Winchester Model 100 Rifle or Carbine, please send your firearm to one of the authorized Winchester Model 100 Firing Pin Replacement Centers indicated below. Your Winchester Model 100 firearm will be inspected, the firing pin replaced and tested and the firearm returned to you. The inspection, replacement/testing and return postage will be accomplished at no cost to you. If other repair or maintenance work is authorized by you to be performed on the firearm when the firing pin is replaced, such work shall be at your cost.”

The potential is there for slam fires if the original pin skirt gets malformed, causing protrusion through the bolt face. Full-auto fire of 4 rounds isn't likely but indeed possible.
Olin still supplies the firing pins and honours the recall. I still do about 3 a year.
And they ship your pin UPS and send you a $30 US check separately by post from head office.

My buddy that just bought the .284 Winchester 100 also has it in .308. He called Winchester through the number I posted, they requested that he pull the firing pins from both rifles and send them into Winchester, they said that they will replace them and in about 6 weeks he would receive the new pins, he only cost is shipping to Winchester
