First of all I'm not really a shotgun guy (although I own 5 or 6) A friend wants to sell his Browning Citori. I had a quick look at it. Field model (I think) Didn't pull the forend of to check on chokes. Browning rubber recoil pad. Locks up tight. Some minor surface rust on barrels/receiver. No pitting. 28 inch barrels.
Looking for a ball park number before somebody offers him a couple hundred bucks and it's gone
I don't do pictures ( I know that's not a good thing)

Thanks

Field grade with rust on barrels and receiver--likely around $700.00 to $800.00 Could be more or less depending on condition of wood. Hard to tell more without pics.

These sell new for around 2700-3200. 700-800??? I dont think so. Depending on condition, I'd say 1500-2000 at least.

Anyone that would pay $1500.00 or more for a field grade with rust on barrels and receiver has lots of free cash laying around. There was one on here awhile ago for I believe $600.00 or less.

These guns are expensive new. Not field grade, Field model.

Well, if they depreciate that hard thats one thing I wasnt aware of. These are good quality shotguns.

Anyways, if my estimate seems too high, please disregard.

By the sounds of the OP it has fixed chokes and is old, so the going price for a new Citori is irrelevant. He could have given more info and photos if he really wanted an accurate appraisal.

Yes, more info will help. Going by what was given, that is why I said it could be a more than my value or a bit less. It depends on age and over all condition. If it is indeed a newer model with screw in chokes, then the value will certainly climb.

The answer to overall condition is answered by the fact of external rust on the gun. It hasn't been properly cared for in the past and it shows, leading one to be suspect of the gun as a whole.

from a high of 650 to a low of 300 depending on the rust you speak of.
Get some pics for a honest amateur appraisal or not.
But, 20 minutes searching the EE in the shotgun section and you will have lots of info to choose from.

Fixed Mod/ Full, Field Citori, Edmonton gun show $950, perfect, less than 1 box of shells.
It sold, not instantly, second day.

RUST is the yecchy taboo when it comes to guns. That'll degrade it quicker than split stocks !

OP....FWIW
....I just recently sold a 1976 Browning Citori Trap / 30 in bbls, with raised comb, an adjustable Morgan recoil pad...fixed F / LF chokes...NO RUST...shiny bores, bluing was 90%..little loss from carry on the receiver bottom...original finish on the wood...real nice shape over all. I got 950 for it. I had the firing pins and springs replaced right after I got it too (196.00)
Recently saw a couple more very similar Brownings (1 trap 28 in and 1 skeet 26" ) both fixed chokes on our local site go for 899...and 999 respectively. Hope this helps your bud a bit.

I'll repeat I'm not really a shotgun guy. Only had 5 minutes to have a look at it. Saw the guy this morning he said surface rust spots came of with an oily rag. He also had fore arm off. No rust what so ever. He had no idea about choke designations. I did forget to mention it is 12 ga. I assume 20's are more desirable.

I very much appreciate the input so far. I'm not acting as a middle man in any kind of deal.

We both live near Bancroft so Switzer's Auction is always an option.
