Hello

I was wondering and decided to ask you here. I found a seller in the EE section advertise his handgun for sale that he had made a set of custom grips to fit his hand on the handgun and now had the handgun up for sale.

First thought I had was, what no factory grips included? He said no. Second, his hand and someone else`s would NEVER be the same or fit the same.

The seller sounded like the custom grips were adding great value to his handgun BUT I find that hard to believe unless you are his clone and he does not know that.

My question to you. Custom made grips, good for the original owner BUT NO extra value for resale of firearm, Yes / No ?

Just wondering.
Thanks for looking
George

Custom grips made to a specific person's hand are not a value added item to a handgun IMO. Mass produced after market grips like Hogue or Pachmyers can help resale if the gun also comes with the originals as these grips are more generic and made to fit a wider spectrum of hand sizes.
One man's treasure is another man's junk.

I agree with Still alive. No added value at all. In fact, no factory originals would generally detract from the value regardless of what grips it was wearing now (unless exotic factory aftermarket grips or Nills maybe)

Depends on what the gun is, and who made the grips. If it is a precision match pistol and the grips were made by Rink or Morini, or one of the other top grade match grip makers then it IS a premium. And only for those who are anatomically ignorant is it appropriate to assume perfect incompatibility. Do you buy your shoes off the rack? Walmart? Or top grade Italian? They will still be made on standard lasts, same applies for grips. Sure they can and should be 'tweaked' so that the sights line up perfectly every time, but then your hand changes with different temperatures, humidity, how much and what you drink or eat. Don't be so paranoid.

As T&G said it would depend on the gun; 686 S-W not so good , Hi end target gun, that is different matter, also what size of hand he and you have.
If it was say a standard 9mm with plastic grips as standard, I would not sweat it if the price was O.K.
