Just wondering what the price ranges are. I know of one for sale but don't
know if it is over priced. It is clean bore looks ok.
Your $0.02 ?

I don't care for or about dirty birds but I think there is ( looking for a better word than value but can't think of one)
collectablity in having them.

Not nearly enough information.

Depending on how it was sporterized and how well/badly, anywhere from $0 - several hundred.

I bought a K98 with a mint barrel[unfortunately BUBBA screwed on a ramped sporter front sight] ,A hacked military laminate stock and D+T for peep sights and top receiver D+T for Weaver bases along with crude bolt bending.Safety also changed to clear scope.Code reads bcd 4 all matching and tight.Shame ............Harold

If it's been drilled/tapped for a scope mount it isn't worth much. Anything irreversible like that destroys value.

What letter code and year stamped on the receiver? Pics of rifle?

If it's the one at Gagnon's, $400. The drilled receiver for the Peep sight killed the value. Numbers match and the bore is nice and the sporterization is well done though. To some it's a $500 rifle but I'd say $400. More quality there from zee Germans than a modern Savage Axis for the same money.

I still don't understand why a grown up would use the term dirty birds
Anyway I scored a vg condition k98 sporter for 250 with only the wood modified. The bolt is not matching but too many parts match for it to be RC. No markings were scrubbed. The stock is worthless though. Did I do good?

Took it to the range today after popping a B+L Bushnell Banner 4x on it and the barrel shot as nice as it looked.Three factory Win 170gr in 1/2" at 100 yards.Likely keep it as a rough use camping/truck gun and see if it likes 200 gr Partitions for bear.Harold

Pretty good. I hope you get a proper stock for it and restore it to it's former glory.

I have a few I paid $400-$450 for... they all have the markings intact. All mismatched, and some Danish fools put 27" heavy target barrels in 6.5x55 on them, then stuck them in heavy Walnut target stocks, made their own adjustable 2 stage triggers and fancy apeture sights, refinished all the metal, smoothed out the actions... totally ruined these left over '98's lol.

I'm currently looking for a k98 stock of course. I took a look at those tradeex has but they are for m48s and wouldn't be historically correct on a German k98
