I wasn't sure this classified as an antique so figured I'd post here.

I'm freeing up some gun locker space and I have no idea what to ask for price wise on this rifle. It's a Winchester 1894 in 30WCF, round barrel, serial number 445###. There is an old repair with bronze solder on the tang which I'm led to believe is a weak point on these. I'd like to think that is something that someone could make use of maybe even as parts gun.

Anyone have thoughts on what a reasonable price is to ask?

Why would you cover the serial number? With the rest of the number we could have found the date of manufacture for you.
It has no collector value and with the bronze weld failure on the tang it is not a shooter.
There would be some value in parts, depending on the condition of the bore and other internal parts.
If someone had a use for some of the parts they may, in a moment of weakness, pay you $150 for it, or if it was Saturday drinking night, who knows, maybe they would give you 200 for it!

Thanks H4831. Figured there wasn't much value but wanted to confirm.
Serial number covered for privacy as it was at one time registered to me.

A few years back at our local gun show a chap had about six or eight bare receivers.
I picked one up for my buddies 25-35 as it too met this tang busting.
Not all original, but I figured a complete miss-matched serial numbered gal was
better'n a bronzed up one.
I'd keep it if the bore and rest was good and find an old unbusted receiver and renew'er.
Value?
No eye-deer, but them receivers were under a hundred bucks back then.
Should'a invested in a kupple three.

I just bought one last week without broken tang and 5 # serial puts it second yr manuf. The only bugabbo was that the barrel (30-30, clean & shiny) was changed years ago, otherwise straight and decent wood and I paid $200 (asking price).

You did well, fingers. In the used parts market a set of decent 1894 wood alone will fetch over $200.

Best suggestion.

I have never understood the concept that a serial number of a firearm is some magic number for some criminal act either... considering the condition of the parts is very rough (I expect the bore would be bad too) I would be very happy to get $150 if it were mine...
