I noticed RC K98's are selling in the $600+ range. Is this a fair price in today's market? I bought 2 around 5 years ago for $165 each. Is this the end of the RC imports into Canada?

Bought one earlier this year for $620. Bent bolt with all markings. Was told at the time they had one more shipment coming in this year. I can't imagine there are too many more left back in Russia. I can just imagine them turning a corner in some old warehouse and finding another stack of boxes though!

That would have been a great price.

RC's are really just worth their sum of parts - so a whole rifle is probably worth $600 these days (stocks sell for $300+).

Some people put premium prices on rare variants (uncommon codes, single rune rifles, sniper variants), which may or may not make sense.

Nobody is selling bent-bolt RC's for $600. They start at $625 (cheapest I have seen in the last month or so at dealers) for straight-bolt variants with peened marks and not-great bores. they go up a bit as condition improves.

Not saying those prices are reasonable or anything, but it IS the retail number. That $625 gun will cost over $700 by the time most buyers have it in-hand.

Can you explain why many of these RC's are straight bolt? I thought all k98 from WW2 era were bent bolt.

Thanks

The Russians Captured many VZ24's in WW2 as well. They have straight bolts.

Some of the K98 rifles had bolts which were lost (purposely by surrendering troops, or by accident), or damaged, and thus the Russians refurbishing all those K98s, just took VZ24 bolts and stuffed them into the K98s. Since both rifle use the same standard length bolt/action, it worked well enough for these second line Russian rifles.

Thanks Desest Fox

Is this for the latest shipments that have come in or does this go back a number of years? All the RC's i have seen over the last 5 or so years all had bent bolts.

Various sources had stated that the russians are running out of mausers, and supplies have been picked over, as a result, these are slightly lesser condition, and more of a mix of bolts.
